Edgun Kryptonite? – Issue Discovered – Request Guidance
Cold temperature?
I shot my gun just a few days ago in 50 degrees F (10 C). It did just fine.
Today, I shot it at 35 degrees F (1 C). And it did horribly. 1-1.5″ at 50 yards. 6″ at 100 yards.
The gun sounded different – less powerful. And the POI was low at both distances. I’m assuming that the cold weather makes the hammer spring less “springy” and consequently, it is hitting the valve with less force and more inconsistency.
Thoughts? Experience?

There’s good reason why Ted is quiet on this subject.
The pics of Ted’s Edgun show a private chemical formulation which he designed to deaden sound, disguise its looks, and prevent exposure to toxic agents such as used motor oil, human sweat, formaldehyde, and the droppings of the Crested Northern Titwing.
It is little known that Ted is a bit eccentric, and works for D.A.R.P.A.
His formulation essentially is developed from road tar, oil from Beaver glands, KY Jelly (Silk-Tingly) and all natural whole wheat pancake mix. These are the ingredients he will admit to, as the active agents are proprietary, and secret.
The man swears by it, and quite possibly will bring it to market this Spring. He’s trying to overcome one drawback in his invention, he has to spray it with cooking oil before each use, or else he can’t release his grip on the stock. (Ever wonder how he holds that sight so steady in his amazing videos???)
Ted is a life-long firearms enthusiast, as evidenced by his reaction to a question poised to him by his then girlfriend, Christina Applegate, when just before an intimate, physical act, she inquired “Ted…did you bring protection?”. To which Ted answered “Why no! I never bring a gun on a date!”. They parted soon after, but that’s another story for another time.
However, to answer your original question, the Edgun comes with a metal finish smoother than the skin on Gringoloco’s butt, which reliable sources have indicated he shaves and oils each morning, prior to hitting the local beaches in Argentina, wearing his mink codpiece.

And….it’s been too damn cold, and I’ve been too lazy to try it out ;)….until today. And it held up. I let the gun sit outside for 30 minutes. When I fired it, the o-ring did not leak. The temperature was -10C (14F).
Da… sh… here we are suffering 30ºC and the weather forecast said we go to 35ºC in a few days…
I hate Summer… (oh, yeah, i love ladys short dresses and bikinis of course…).

Are those breech and bolt pictures of an Edgun? Did you put some sort of texture finish on the receiver, or is that how they come? No offense but I kept Thinking to myself it should be finished a little nicer for $1500

Yep, I think an o-ring replacement has fixed the problem.
I have no idea what the original was made from, but the replacement in Buna N (Nitrile). 7mm, 1.6mm.
I’ll give it a try in the cold tomorrow.
May be try another type of o-ring ? The Viton ones seem to be harder and produce a better seal, – but may not last quite as long…….
Just a thought from across the pond where we currently suffer -15 C on average……. 🙄
This issue is that my gun leaks a small amount of air where the barrel meets the breech (see photo above). It only does this in cold weather, and only from 200-160 bar. Below 160, I can’t notice any air leaking out that space. This is why my gun has been shooting 3MOA low after I fill it.
So, how do I go about putting an end to this problem? I suppose I’m going to have to loosen that barrel, and slide it a hair closer to the breech, eh? Is that going to take a special tool? Those screws holding the barrel in place look pretty…er…tight.

Very good pics Ted ! So we’re talking cal.25, – am I correct ?
If so, what pellets do you use ? I have discovered that some of my Barras have uneven skirts, – thinner on one side if you understand what I mean and with the bottom slightly off center. This happpens in cal.22 as well as cal.25.
Have you tried sorting the pellets ? Easy way of checking for unevenness is rolling them on a flat surface. Those “off-center” ones will move a bit from side to side before they come to a stop…

You know, when it comes to my pellet lube experiments, this caricature isn’t all that far off. However, I’ve recently switched back to buttermilk pancakes from whole wheat. The fiber just isn’t worth the gritty texture.
