Q:

a piece to be made! could anyone give me a quote??

i would like to get a quote for a single piece of 6061 aluminum to be machined to these specifications: i need a tube, with a .775″ I.D., that is 26″ long. the outside dimensions are as follows: 1.21″ O.D. for the length of 1.5″. it would then taper down to .984″, the length of the taper would be 2.75″. the O.D. of .984″ will be the O.D. for the remainder of the piece, or 21.75″ how much would something like this cost? any takers for this? its a barrel shroud for a custom Rem 700 clone… its a weird project, PM me if you want to know more- its kinda complicated!

yeah, like “he who giggles to himself probably just farted” or something that involves a road trip, beans and driver-controlled window locks…

There.

Dang, that’s not much of a quote NJ.

How about these for an example: “That which does not kill me, makes me not dead!” Or possibly “If a lone Marine farts in the woods, is it socially still considered a fart?”

I think Caboose was seeking a much deeper meaning than you offered.

of course im talking about an airgun crazies! this is an airgun forum, is it not?! i know my ideas are weird, dont judge me!! 😆 no, but seriously im designing an original PCP replica… im coming to you guys because i dont have the knowledge base that most on this forum do.

I’m assuming Caboose is referring to a PCP.

Anything made from aluminum and plastic parts that we discussed would be blown to hell and gone at the first shot.

Clarify Caboose….are you building for a firearm or a PCP?

We don’t do firearms here, even with a Class II stamp. This forum is all about airguns and exotic PCP replicas and original pieces of work.

If this is for a Rem 700, anyone doing any work on this better be an SOT. Otherwise there is a shitstorm of trouble here.

It would not be wise to continue posting about that type of thing.

poop!! and ill have to have the baffles made because we’ll have to change up the sizes a bit, due to a different I.D. i dont think crosman is selling Mrod parts yet, are they? and the only reason for the length is so that i can adjust for the barrel length… so i can cut it down if needed…

You can buy all parts for the Mrod. I bought only the shroud and baffles from them. Cost about $40 or less.

Give them a call and tell them what you need. You will be pleasantly surprised.

PS: Don’t give up on your project. There are answers out there, but when you go where no one has gone before, you must travel alone sometimes till you get back to familiar territory.

here’s a question: would .234″ be enough wall thickness to thread? basically same threads as the Mrod shroud endcap (anyone have measurements on that??)?

Don’t give up on your idea yet it just might take a little longer than planned to build…Greg

The biggest issue will be finding the material to start with…where I would start is look at http://www.mcmaster.com and see if they have some heavy wall aluminum tube that would get you close to the o.d. And I.d. Dimensions you’re looking for….then my next question is are you just buying replacement mrod baffles or are you having them made too?? And lastly to put that much taper on the od you have to have a lathe with at least a 30″ bed so you can put the tube between centers and dial the tail stock off to give you the desired taper…my lathe at home is too short as are most home lathes….Greg

maybe bump the shroud to 1″? instead of .984″? it wouldnt be MUCH of a difference… the real specs of barrel shroud that id like is 1.20″ for 2″, tapering down to .94″ at the muzzle…but i was told that would be an even bigger P.I.A. than my idea…too much taper to machine…but there again, what I.D. to run? since i want to keep the Mrod baffle design… the barrel would be a lothar walther- same O.D. (or close to) crosman specs… thoughts?

i was also thinking about the wall thickness of the shroud…
