Newbie question..it just does not seem right!

Just purchases a Talon/Talon SS used off this forum from Bullseye.
This gun is in PERFECT condition. It sure looks like brand new to me. He should be put on the good guy list, he sure did right by me!
As this may apply to all the AF guns, I posted it here.
I do have a single question…note pic below…when the gun is loaded there is some play in the area indicated. The bolt/hammer..whatever its called (don’t know term ..newbie). It can be moved back of forth about 1/4 of an inch. This may be normal I don’t know..is it normal?
For some reason it just strikes me as odd.
I now see why many of you just plain take off the safety..it works..but not a real good design.
Have shot about 100 pellets through this gun…it just plain sucks all the fun out it…every shot..pellet in pellet at 30 feet..or so close its nuts. The most accurate gun I have ever had. I LIKE IT !!
This gun makes my 30ft basement shooting a waiste of time..why bother!
Guess I’m gonna have to take it outside…But burr..its cold out there 😆

But, I still think if the power wheel was on 4 with co2 at 800psi then 4 on hpa 1200 would already make more power.Its not a problem !
The higher the pressure in the tank or reg the harder it is to open the valve so if its set to run happy at 800 psi then you up the pressure to 1200 psi power will more than likely drop .
The higher the pressure the harder you have to hit the valve 🙂
I thought that model was crystal from American Airgunner. Hell if it is not her, she could be her twin sister.
If you lost power at increased pressure perhaps up the powerwheel?

I did increase the power wheel and it worked!
But, I still think if the power wheel was on 4 with co2 at 800psi then 4 on hpa 1200 would already make more power.Its not a problem..maybe something to do with the fact that it is going through a cheap pure energy regulator…
I have no idea of what that models name is, but once I hook her up to my 48ci tank, she fills up real quick. She is always ready to shoot a few rounds, I must be doing something right because she is always smiling!
I had some play between my top hat and breech hammer for a second AF tank. The gun AF Tank was already adjusted to remove all play when cocked.
I found the play was a problem when I didn’t bring the breech 100% back to the tophat. I got dud shots that didn’t travel 20 yards. I adjusted the top hat to remove the slack and everything has been great since.
As for wasted air, efficiency, and MV… I don’t know… but it shoots great. I popped a little blue loctite on the top hat grub screws when I set them again to encourage them not to move. Don’t over tighten them! Both tanks have been great for nearly a year now without any hassle.
The click on sliding the breech back is as it pops over the rear breech oring.

“Till it clicks” mine does not click!, on hammer/bolt pull back.
It clicks when pushed forward and locks into loading place..but not on pullback and lockdown of the bolt..no click at all.
This was enough for me to go watch the Tom Gaylord dvd again. Sure enough, after he loads the pellet and then pulls the bolt/hammer back..there is a distinctive CLICK.
Mine does not have that click at all, just a smooth bolt/hammer pullback..could this be a problem?
In my above picture..it was not my intent to point to the top hat distance of play..but rather the hammer play distance..once a pellet is loaded in breech there is about 1/4 of an inch play between the back of the hammer..and the frame, so the bolt can be moved back and forth about 1/4 of an inch after being locked down to the left or right. This is with the CO2 adapter only…I suspect the play amount is the same either way. The play is far less with the 3000psi tank..so I guess it is the tophat adjustment..one and the same.
New question…air sources..I have been using Co2
Today, I hooked up a Paintball HPA tank set at the 1200-1400psi range, expecting it to have more power than the Co2 tank..this was not the case.
The Co2 which I think runs in the 800-850psi range goes throught or almost through a 1″ piece of pine. I hooked up a 1200psi HPA paintball tank..expecting like 30% more power..wrong the pellet just penetrated the 1″ pine a little bit..I just don’t understand why?
Pull the bolt back over the tophat/valve stem untill it “Clicks” once it does that it is fully seated.
That can be normal? Airforce recommends that the tophat be adjusted out until, there is no play between the Breech and TopHat.
The TAG says : Adjust tophat for best number of shots/MV. When Tuned by The TAG method, some play/slop may be present. My Condor had some play, don’t think it was nowhere near a 1/4 .250inch.
Check MV with a chrony and count number of shots between refill. Moving the tophat will change both and typically waste air and make a louder muzzle blast.
The slop doesn’t really cause any problems, just a little aggravation. 😕
