Shoebox arrives two days early
Well I checked the UPS site like I do, a kid waiting for christmas, and saw that they were delivering my Shoebox today, oddly it went from being placed on the truck back east to out for delivery with no other notations.
I read the manual, installed the fittings and bleeder assembly and then remembered that I had no white lithium grease, I had molylithium but no white lithium, then I remembered that is what the divers grease I use on my Airforce Orings is. But Tom had greased the pistons before shipping anyway.
So as I type this, I can hear that little Shoebox filling my Pygmee bottle. It had 3000PSI in it from my scuba bottles when I filled it just to see if I could.
My bedroom is right next to the shop so I can hear it running. My buddy RJ said it was noisy, and sure enough I can hear it. So running it at night wil not be an option, but you can’t really anyway unless your going to get up every three hours to lubricate it.
Not having slept many full nights since shooting Jerome Jackson back in 79 as he tried to murder me, and having the bear breaking into my house that needed shooting, running that compressor is not an option. I wear ear plugs at night but like I said, I will not run it at night as I sleep. It is only about 45 degrees so over heating will probably not be a problem
I had little damage to mine, the cover was bent but easily fixable with hand pressure. The cover is just sitting loose right now, I have to remove it to plug in the fill hose for the pygee tank. Perhaps that opening needs to be larger, or I need a female fitting with a larger slip ring?
Funny. I have spent my life looking for females with smaller slip rings 😆 .

Excellent RC, excellent! Thanks for the pics. RC’s right Tom, you are better than a warranty.
I switched to the bigger gauge that was on one of my scuba yokes, it is bigger, and is usually within 100 PSI of what the scuba shop gauge is.
4300PSI is what it fills to, so with error on that gauge, and cold air, I think this Shoebox is working to specs.

The cold shop is another variable here, it was in the high 30’s when I fill the bottle last night, I brought it in the house and at 65 degrees it is reading 4000PSI on that little gauge. The ame small gauges on my ETACs are often off by 500PSI, so unless I have a more accurate gauge, to tell me the pressure is in fact low, I am not going to worry about it.
My scuba cascade system has bigger more accurate gauges, I am wondering if I keep my scuba tank valves closed and just use the cascade system as a deadhead if that would give ma a more accurate reading. The problem I have with that is, the cascade system was designed for 3000PSI, are they able to take 4500 PSI?
I just got a brainstorm, I have two gauges on the pygmee bottle, there is a 3000 PSI gauge on the bleed system, I will trade one of the 4500 PSI gauges on the scuba clamp for the 3000PSI gauge on the pygmee.

This time if I read the tiny gauge correctly, it is shutting off at around 3900PSI, the 3000PSI gauge in the Pygmee fill line does drop maybe 100PSI over a 5 minute intervel, on the tiny 4500 gauge it is difficult to detect if at all.
If I hold the on switch to the on position, it will continue to run, I am just not willing to do that for more than 20 seconds tho.
I am not sure that this is not just a pressure shut off PSI in conjuntion with a tiny 4500 PSI gauge that I am not sure of the verasity of.
But at this point I am just going to go to bed, I am not too troubled by this Tom, I am sure it is fixable, and in the case of gauge accuracy, considering that I have 7 gauges here on 6 different venues that read different pressures, I am not too worried nor should you be at this point Tom.
If it is your compressor that is at fault, I think just resetting the collet may be the answer, if a correction is even needed at all.
All in all I am convinced that this is in fact a fine machine.

The imput pressure from my Harbor Freight compressor is set at 87 PSI.
I have not been in the shop when it shuts off, but I am montoring it as I write this.
There are two gauges on the pygmee, however one only goes to 3000PSI, the amount it goes past 3000PSI leads me to believe that it is going past the 3750psi that records on the second tiny gauge. But that is so subjective to be truely a stab in the dark.
By the way thanks for monoring this site and being here to support your product, this is truely worth more than a warrantee.

What is your input pressure? The higher it is, the lower it will shut off. Also when it shuts off does the needle on the gauge move down at all? A good gauge is worth the money.
Also try turning off the tank valve and just fill the hose. See what it shuts off at and report back here.

It seems it is a pressure issue, either the Pygmee gauge is wrong or the Shoebox pressure switch shutoff needs adjusting.
I let it cool down to where it is cool to the touch, switched it back on and it shut off after a second.
I then released the pressure in the line to the Pygmee and turned it back on again, it shut off after about five minutes, which is the time it took to fill the Pygmee feed line with pressure.
I did this twice to make sure.
I also remembered that Divers grease is not white Lithium, it is silicone, so tomorrow I will need to do the 20 minute drive to town and back for white lithium grease.
Cool thing about the Pygmee bottle is that I can top off my scuba tanks in the house with it, no more lifting those heavy scuba bitches.

So it just shut off after running for 45 minutes.
Pressure in the Pygmee is now 3750PSI according to the Mickey Mouse gauges we deal with. I started with 2700PSI in the tank even tho I filled it with 3000PSI, like I said, Mickey Mouse gauge
Pistons are very warm to the touch. I turned it back on and it ran for a second and it shut itself off.
Too hot?
Correct 4500 PSI presure reached and gauge is incorrect?
I have it unplugged and will wait for it to cool down.
