Krytox grease
Has anyone ever used Krytox grease instead of silicone for the lubrication of the O-rings?

Comet, you may never shoot your Gamo again. Springers klank and bang and are just anti-social compared to PCP guns. If you like the .177, you are going to love the .22 caliber. 😉 It really packs a wallop! What are you using it for? Targets? Pet control?
Oh ya, welcome to the TAG. :tag:
Sorry Rob, I don’t mean to bag on your beloved springers and I sure admire you mastery of them. I just can’t handle the klank and twang…and they are really heavy.
OK,
“These
oils and greases are ideal for many conditions, such as:
• continuous high temperatures up to 288 ºC
• use around hazardous chemicals
• plastics, elastomer, or metal applications
• where ammability is a concern, including reactive
gases and oxygen service
A 5-Port Pilot-Type Solenoid Valve Application
Electromagnetic force causes the spools in the solenoid assembly to move to the left and right, reciprocally… The fast movement creates friction. Pressure is gauged at 0.1~0.7MPa (1~7.1kgf) and the response time is less than 12~38ms.
The Challenge:
The valve manufacturer had the following requirements:
• Guarantee cycle operation of 3,000,000 for
one year
• Resist water and oil that enter an air port
from other processes and attack the
greases on the spools and seals, causing
failure of the cycle
• Must operate at room temperature and
withstand atmospheric pressure
The Solution:
High performance DuPontâ„¢ Krytox oils and greases stand up to tough conditions. Applying Krytox oil to the solenoid coil in the assembly helped to reduce the friction and heat, allowing for longer cycles. Coating the spools and seals with Krytox grease helped to extend the life
of these components while enabling them to resist the environmental effects of water and other oils.”
That sounds promising. I believe the 288 degree C working temperature puts it above the flash point of White Lithium Grease. But, I get confused when they don’t specify which Krytox oil or grease was used. Krytox appears to be a family of lubricants. The Korean valve high speed valve producer appears to have been satisfied.
I wonder what the specific Krylox grease for o-rings is called and how much it costs. White Lithium grease is cheep and fill the bill but if the Krylox grease could be proven to make o-rings last longer with less repeated lubrication, it could be worth a couple bucks more than the White Lithium grease.
Let us know if you get more specific info about the o-ring grease Comet.
I’m wondering what to use on my Hill Hand Pump. I left it under pressure hooked to the tank sitting in front of a heat register for several days and it quit for the first time in a year. I might try White Lithium in it because it seems to liquefy at lower temps than Silicone. Maybe not the best reasoning but Silicone seems tacky at room temperature.
Comet,
Well, it’s your topic…let us know what you find out about Krytox and o-rings.
The picture on the link you gave pictures Ball Bearings. I don’t have any of those in my AF rifle.
Give us some quotes from the manufacturer that relate to air rifles…
SteveinLA thanks for the welcome. Yeah Krytox is a lube originally developed for NASA (I think).

Any way I was curious if anyone had used this product for O-ring lube.
Got a Talon in .177 for Christmas, like it lots. Hope it does better than my Gamo Hunter.
Answered my question gents thanks, any particular brand in mind? Idealy i want one product to do the whole gun.
IF IT AIN’T BROKE,DON’T FIX IT. divers silicone grease is cheap and readily available in most places.
The Slip2000 is not the same as Krytox and that explains the cost difference. The Slip2000 seems to be good for metal to metal applications but I don’t see any advantage to using it on an oring.
I’d stick with divers silicone tat’ Works a treat and is cheap. Why change?
Got a link?
Its on that midway uk site and just under a tenner for 4oz,have a look and see what you think.
Never heard of it. 😕
Krytox is perfectly suited for use on the AF guns but at $93.60 for a 2 once tube…. you can probably get away without the space age lube!

SteveinLA, yeah clank, twang, sight picture goes blurry. Won’t miss that.
