Q:

Full shroud design

advice needed please, i’m looking at building a full shroud for my ratty as i’ve had no luck in finding builders over here as yet.

its just in design stage and im going over the baffle system and would like your thoughts on it if thats ok.

so it would be a two peice unit, the first would be the shroud covering the barrel fixed to the silencer adapter with each internal barrel fitted with an o-ring so it rides the barrel and dampens any vibration. the the silcener (matching tube) would then fit to this to create one peice. i’ve not seen a full shoud internaly so no idea on how its put together or how it fixes up to the barrel so going on this idea for now.

my next bit is the baffles and im thinking of using the M type baffles system so i can strip the thing and customise the spacings as needed.

now i’ve vented my stealth front bushing so going on that thought and the results, the middle connector to join the two parts would also be vented as well as any baffles down the shroud. each baffle would also have dampening material intersecting each other.

have i over complicated the design or is there a better way from my discription.

any comments are welcome

thanks for the info bananaman. its for my crosman as2250, the second paragraph was a bit miss leading sorry for that 🙂

i’ve got the standard breach so hights not so good from frame to barrel. I’ve finnaly found somone to build the thing now, engineer up my way and the projects started well. He’s done a smart thing by using a ali bar, drilling through for the barrel and then opening it up for the baffles. on the breach side he’s used a bull nose cutter and cut out a curve so it now goes streight down to the breach and just sits on the barrel with a nice mod on the barrel band for strenght. it goes past the muzzel by about and inch so the first part of the air gets fed back via the vented baffles and then either an aftermarket silencer can be attached to the 1/2″ female end cap or he can make one to match the shroud part.

most of the complications have come from not seeing the insides of one so i’m tweeking as it goes on, its a one off so looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

from your design though i get what your saying so if i make one my self by hand al know what to do.

All the best,

Ian

Maybe this could help as well tat http://www.metals4u.co.uk/products.asp?cat_id=22

Do you intend to mount an already built suppressor or starting from scratch? Your description kind of sounds both ways but I’ll assume you’re making from scratch.
Mounting a shroud on a Condor/Talon can be quite simple. You know that plastic cap that slides into the frame, you can make the shroud from two pieces of aluminum tube and a cap. One tube 1″OD that telescopes into the airgun frame and another tube 1″ID/1.25″OD to telescope over the inner tube. The inner tube will be aligned by the frame and as long as all is tight, alignment falls into place without having to even touch the barrel. An added benefit is that you get a rather large first stage expansion chamber which really lowers the pressure in subsequent stages. They also have vented bushings to further make use of the space around the barrel but without anything but conjecture to back it up, I feel this is excessive work for what is probably insignificant gain.

I’m also designing a shroud for myself so I’ll throw in a link to the tubes I’m intending to buy (U.S.A.) if it helps.
