Regulator valve lock..a good thing

Valve lock..considered a bad thing right?

I have 3 48ci PE paintball tanks, I don’t do paintball. All tanks have been shimmed, to up the output pressure to 1600-1800 psi. These tanks were once used for another pcp gun. They work real well for basement shooting the Talon 24″ on the Co2 adapter. I get about 800fps with JSB 15.9’s which is a little over 20fp. This is a good power level for plinking and shooting in the back yard. When using the Talon 3000psi tank, its more like 950fps and 34fp..Used for hunting only. These 48ci tanks are bigger, a PITA to look into scope..but useable. They are nice because they all have pressure guages on them. The AF tank is 490cc..which is about 29ci.

When I get the shoebox, I will want to use all the tanks at 3000psi.

So while others worried about valve lock..I want it!

A PE tank is 45$ and hold more air,an AF tank is 180$

How do I valve lock a PE regulator?

Actually 930 ‘s to 950’s is where i adjust my condor for the 18 g. jsb , it tightens up at this velocity. so you are right close to where you need to be. 😀

THe CO2 valve has the same Top Hat and valve stem, different bushing and valve spring I believe. The inside of the bushing is smaller so less air gets to the valve stem openings.

I had heard for a long time it was the same, so I tired it.

It would have been far less expensive to ask Lurker, he knew all along, he just had not read my posts asking the question about it. 😆

Which is an important lesson for a newby on this forum.

Ask, almost everytihing that can be done has been done by these guys.

Well being the dumb ass that I am, I just can not leave well enough alone!

Jacked the paintball HPA tanks up to 1950-2000 psi. Added just ONE MORE shim to them..it works well.

I am getting great power out of the HPA painball tanks to CO2 adapter.

Shooting a 21.1 grain kodiak over the crony at about 900fps…Thats 38fp. The 18.1 JSB go about 970fps.

I know the CO2 adapter does not have a high flow valve..but from what I have read, it does have a larger flow capacity than a standard talon low flow valve. I wonder what it would do if hooked up to the full 3000psi?
For now I will leave that to the next guy..I’m real happy at 38fp.
Yea, you are right I will do it someday after I get the Shoebox…

There is a minor problems with the setup…

You can’t take the hpa tanks off the co2 adapter with 2000psi …there is just no way..your fighting all that pressure…

you cannot do that as the spring case is vented

If he wants to use the paintball tank your valve body is the solution

Exactly what I wanted do !

Voltar has a good point, I had not considered the output of the reg as not being designed for 3000psi.

I think its best to scrub the idea and leave well enough alone. Just for the record it does work well with the current setup..All 3 regs are shimmed up to the 1600 to 1800psi range. Makes for a lot of basement /backyard shooting.

You don’t know what you are asking for do you?

valve lock = no shots, no air to push pellets, no worky

if you are meaning you want to jack the reg wide open just add more shims. Not a good idea as the outlet on a reg is not built for 3,000psi but hair on yah.

You have the pressure set at 1800 psi and are using a CO2 adapter and have valve lock?

Take the tank off and then check and see if the valve can move in and out smoothing. It might be hung up with burr or it might be broken.

These are standard 3000psi HPA tanks..not Co2.

They have pure energy regulators set at the factory for 800-850psi. These regulators can be shimmed to up the pressure. A valve lock is when the full psi of the tank is opened up..in other words the full 3000psi.

In other words when shimmed up a poor mans JSD setup. If valve locked will work..then a $45 replacement for the AF tank.

But you have a good point..can the co2 adapter valve handle that kind of pressure? I think so, I have heard it has a hi-flow valve inside, bit Im’ not sure..anyone know?

26 “looky lous” as of now, and no replys…so I’ll take a stab at it…. 😉

CO2 tanks that I’ve seen have a service pressure of 1800psi, and a proof pressure of 3000psi.

Now, I can’t say for certain that the co2 adapter has the same service/proof pressure, maybe someone actually knows, but in the absence of such testimony, it may be prudent to use the equipment designed for co2, at co2 pressures.

Just thinking out loud… 🙂
