Oiling Pellets
As recommended by Air Force, I oiled my pellets with Break Free. I used a baggie and then set them on a paper towel prior to loading.
A bit messy. Not dripping, but I did wipe down the sliding breech where I had some oil. Have I ruined my O-rings? How sensitive are they?

I got into shooting Jerry’s slugs from my .25 Condor and noticed that I was getting significant leading. Not good for accuracy. I tried lubing with 10wt silicon R/C shock oil (as recommended by knifemaker if I recall for cast bullet shooting in the .257). A bit messy but no more leading and very good accuracy.
Sorry to resurrect such an ancient thread, but I heard about oiling pellets for the first time today (yep! I’m the noob.) But everything I can find about it was written years ago. Was this just a passing fad, or is it something that’s so well established that “everyone” just knows about it now?

Same here. I should have mentioned the air is free firehouse dryed and filtered. Only the taxpayers finest. I think a hand pump w/o a dryer long term may be a moisture issue eventually.
I have never used oil… I shoot mainly Kodiaks… I have never cleaned the barrel. It still shoots like a laser after 2000 rounds and 18 months. I use SCUBA compressed air only which may account for the lack of moisture.

Old thread but I did some exptensive testing with Kodiaks using FP10, Break Free, and Crosman Pellgun oil in my Condor shooting Cuda’s/Kodiaks just recently after the recommendation was made to me in a formal bench rest setting. To make a long story short the groups suffered very slightly in all cases. I shot 5 shot groups at 32 yards and dry Kodiaks are normally under 3/8″. Even slightly lubing pellets using the foam increased the groups in all cases by roughly 1/8-1/4″. After about 100 shots in total I was convinced. Now I just shoot through a fewed lubed pellets from time to time and it takes a few shots to recover accuray. I am a previously 20 year bench rest shooter and am pretty sure about the results. I did not have Kry-tech to try so I cannot vouch for using that at this point but plan on ordering some. To formalize the testing I even topped off the tank (2700 psi) at the beginning to each round to create an unlubed control group and then repeated it with lube. For the average bird/squirrel shooter it may not make much difference until you get out past 50-60 yards on your shots. I tend to shoot right out to 100 yards with my 22 Condor and found the difference significant.

I used to do that with my springers–put in a drop of 3 in 1 oil in the skirt and the springer would diesel. It would bang and smoke like a .22 rimfire. It dramatically increased the power, too; I could blow a pellet through thick phone books. However, accuracy went to hell and there was no consistency shot to shot. I was also concerned about the breech blowing up on me, so I used safety goggles when I fired these oiled shots. After a while I quit, because if you can’t hit the target, what use is more power?
I may be wrong about this, but I thought the whole idea of oiling your pellets for a PCP was to keep the barrel from developing rust?
PCPs with air always shoot a puff of moisture out the barrel, its pretty tough to keep compressed air dry.
I use 100% Nitrogen, so Ive never bothered with oiling pellets after finding all it does is make a mess and cause accuracy to suffer. (All because I never learned to NOT overdo it with the oil)

Can’t say any pellet lube made me or my Condor shoot more accurately. I don’t do target shooting, except to zero, or check/rezero my rifles. Main use for me was to prevent leading of the Barrel and extend the rounds between cleaning. My condor barrel averaged about 2,000 rounds between cleaning, because accuracy would deteriate. When pushing Kodiaks fast, they left a black coating in the barrel, which affected accuracy. Then I used Break Free CLP or Shooter Choice FP-10 to clean the Barrel. Used Break Free CLP to clean M-60 7.62mm and U.S Airforce also Recommended. Left an oily film. so somewhat messy. Leaned about FP-10 from KnifeMaker and other Airgun users. Was labeled as PCP rifle safe. Works good with Air or Powder rifles.
Tim @ Mac1 Airguns recommended Finish Line Krytech. He has a good reputation and that was good enough for me. This is my favorite pellet lube, Smells good, and leaves a hard, slick, dry, black coat on the pellets.
PilkGuns recommended TSi 301/321 Synthetic lube. 301 is not O-ring friendly but 321 is O-ring friendly. This lube will dry and should be used sparingly, because it will wick into places not wanted!
Does it help the gun’s performance? Yes, extends the rounds fired between barrel cleaning. Accuracy! maybe, maybe not? Your mileage will vary. Depends which Pellet lube your gun likes?

The foam that comes in Crosman/JSB pellet tins works good. With CLP or FP-10.

I take a shotgun cleaning patch and wet it with Ballistol oil. I put it in a half filled Crosman tin for 500 pellets and shake it around. Enough oil gets on the pellets from the patch to lubricate without overdoing it. That is my way, to each their own.
