Now here is a mid 19th century Big Bore project in progress

action is Belgain, figure 1850s and never used
stock and lock are similar era Italian
have the trigger assem, its at a buddies place waiting retrofit of a single set trigger along with getting the tumbler cut for a fly
bore is about 11mm smooth bore…probably get relined to .308
figuring on having the pin valve off a 3.5 oz tank pin valve turned for the old thread

nope just finely blued steel 😆

Hey maybe you could paint some flames on it as well 🙄

you have no idea WOK
cut my teeth on High Standard & Hammerli rapid fire ISU target pistols

I realize it’s more the professionals game and takes a great deal more practice & natural skill to master
however it does have advantage over the one man, one gun, one shot way of thinking 😆 😆 😆

Well maybe you can fit a 5 shot clip on it and rapid fire.

I know how much you like doing that 😀

RC:
Problem is finding a pressure vessel in the spherical configuration

sure one could be made up however finding a craftsman willing and/or capable of this work is not easy

two methods come to mind
the first is fabricating the halves of the sphere via metal spinning on a larger lathe and joining them with silver braze over weld
a tricky job at best…
the second would be to turn the halves from sold stock with a threaded interface at the join
could even install a small gauge in the bottom

in any case would like a tank capable of at least 2000 psi
the breech is plenty strong, easily stronger than any current AG breech design. The weak point of the vintage big bores was always the pressure vessels and to a lesser extant, the natural materials incorporated in the valve seats on many, particularly air canes with their horn seats

Barrel is threaded into the breech, I do have a beautiful 11mm barrel that a very light weight octagon off some German single shot I have debated having fitted to this breech. Have the forend as well that matches the Italian butt nicely
just another of far too many projects…sigh

This is so not going to end up…

Wok,

While I thought that, being such a diplomatic person, I hesitated to say it.

Riverside,

That is a terrible idea, keep that superb piece of history intact and put a period style reserior on it. At the very least, put a ball reservior on it that has the same connector as the hangy tanks, so it does not look like a bastard child, and when your in the privacy of your own home, you can use the hangy tanks.

That way you will avoid being accused of rubbing it with one of Obamas lips. 😆

actually thinking of using the 3.5 oz CO2 tanks that limpwrister WOK uses on his sissy LD 😆 😆 😆

turn the pin valve down, thread and use an extended valve shaft
figure the breech is 1850s or earlier but was never used
tang isn’t even drilled for a screw
