Q:

Testing a condor or Edgun

I’d like to find someone who will let me shoot their Edgun or Air Force Condor to see which one I would want to buy. I’m torn between the good looks of the Edgun and the modularity of the Condor. If you live in Indiana send me a message and we can probably work something out

Wow its a good thing i finally decided on a condor after all. 1500 is out of my price range by a lot especially since i would have to get the optics and pump to fill the damned thing. Thank you to all who have responded. i haven’t heard the problems with the edgun before this and after hearing about it i had the revelation that it just isn’t perfect.

Didn’t I just read an article about 3 days ago stating that no more Edguns will be shipped to the US due to gov’t. regs? I believe it was written by Ed with an explaination of his efforts and reasons why.

Oldgoat,

I am sure there are many happy customers out there, but there are lots of other ones that are having problems too.

While your .25 broke a valve at around 7500, mine broke it at 1500 but then again you were shooting 25.4 while I tried 31, 35 and even 43 grains & then I was told that it’s not made for heavier pellets.

Now that I am shooting the 25, all is okay but that’s after I broke a couple of other things too & had to fabricate my own cause I couldn’t wait any longer for spare parts.

I understand that Customs, etc in Russia is a pain in the ass but does that including spare parts like valves, hammer spring & rod etc.. ??!

My last pm to Ed, a month ago inpromised I won’t bother him any more & I wont, but since someone asked for input I felt I had to give my experience with the gun so far.

I don’t want to even start with the barrel and how it sits against that breach, it’s a pain & I too had to fabricate my own solution.

To summarize all this in one sentence About the .25 it wouldnhave to be something like that.

” Get the Edgun with spare parts & don’t use anything heavier than the JSB Kings & be ready to wait, a freaking looking time” ๐Ÿ˜€

All in all it’s a good gun but not without it’s problems. And last but certainly not least, your milage might vary, so some are happy others are not too happy.

I have a .22 standard and a .25 long version Matador. I have had the .22 for going on 2 years and except for probe O rings, I have had zero issues with it.

The .25 long broke an air valve at around 7,500 shots. Mamcrackin overnighted me a spare valve and Tony got me a replacement and 2 extras in about a month.

In all fairness, to Ed, I had my .25 shooting the JSB 25.4 grain pellets at 955 fps. I think that I was asking too much from the gun. Jeff has his shooting them at 915 and has not broken a valve. We both had troubles with the barrel O ring leaking. We finally figured out that the rear scope mount had shifted and the barrel was not sitting square with the breech. I made a couple of brass rods that we use as a guide to get the barrel aligned before tightening the mounts. That solved the O ring issue.

The only other โ€œhigh endโ€ air gun that I have is a .22 FX Royale 400. I have had a couple of issues with it.

Ed and Tony stand behind the Edguns and they both answer PMs and emails. Just try getting an email address for the owners of any of the other โ€œhigh endโ€ air gun companies!

The wait for Edguns, and spare parts, can get long. I waited around 45 days for my .22 and 6 months for the .25. A major part of the wait is caused by Russian customs tying up shipments. I think that the wait time will be reduced when Ed get his production moved out of Russia.

When you buy an Edgun, you are buying a hand assembled, tested and tuned air gun. I plan on keeping my 2 and have been waiting a month, so far, for my third.

A .22 Air Force Condor was my first PCP. I had it for about 6 months before I got my first Edgun. I did all of the mods and tuning. I finally got it shooting pretty well but, it took a lot of work! I got my .22 Matador and it shot as good, if not better, right out of the box. You can set the Condor up to shoot very heavy slugs and even arrows!

At the end of the day, it depends on what you want the air gun to do.

I hate waiting for Edguns!

Good gun, but has it flaws like anything else….

You said it Pabs… I have always thought it. There are plenty of high end airguns out there that you could get your hands on right now, and get spare parts for it if needed. I feel sorry for all those guys “waiting for Edgun”, I would have a hard time sending $1500 to someone I don’t know for a gun I haven’t seen or know if I will ever see. Just Sayin’

Ed seems like a nice guy and well intended. Perhaps he is being weighed down by all the shits taken on him from the bureaucratic quarter? Whatever the case may be…Texas is a whole lot closer than Russia!

I hear what you are saying Naser. Sometimes a ‘thing’ gets a cult following, and when things go wrong people don’t want to hear it, kind of a fingers in ears’ nah nah nah’ thing. I read lots of good things about it, and a fair few grumblings in the background.
I think its just not massed produced/tested/supported yet.

Pab bro, the gun is great but mannnnn it broke so many times on me and the pain of not being able to get spare parts is just really annoying, Ed needs to support his customers ๐Ÿ™

And for that Price, you can get loads of better guns that are more reliable & has parts every where.

Whats upsetting too is that i know for a fact that so many people have the same problem but we just dont talk about it, but try starting a thread about how many people broke their Edgun or waiting for parts & i am sure you will see the result.

A week after i got the gun it broke the valve so Ed sent new ones “quick”, 2 month later it broke the rod that holds the spring & i needed other parts & 4 month later i am still waiting to know if i will ever get them or not.

I made many mods to the gun & its better but i am just always worried it would break on me.

Again, despite all this you just tend to like it for a reason i cant explain.

The condor needs some tunning, and there is so much you can do to it to make it the way you want, the power on it is just amazing once tunned & the barrel isnt too picky about pellets, the edgun doesnt shoot that well with anything other the JSB Kings ( talking about the .25).

Even though many people here who own one dont come forward to mention it but the Edgun has many flaws & you should always consider spare parts the day you order it. Cause customer support is really “really” bad.

I am sure you can tell from the Ed forum that so many users are waiting for more then 4 month for spare parts & until today we dont even know if we will ever have them or not, heck even people who ordered the new R3 dont know when they will get them & the delivery date seems to drag on & on and on…

The Condor has shit loads of parts & you can get them “Any” where the minute you want them.

I will say that i like the Edgun but only cause its a Bull pup & other things that has nothing to do with accuracy or power, you just end up liking it.

I give you the feedback but you have to make the final call.

hope this helps.
What PB said! And also, one is a bull pup and one is a rifle. I don’t have an Edgun, but I’d imagine them to be much lighter if carrying through the woods is a concern.
I am pretty athletic so the weight isnt a concern really. and the length is comaprable to the rifles i already have- a gamo big cat 1200 and a crosman G1 extreme (both spring piston). i’ve been looking for a .22 PCP to boost my range and accuracy

What PB said! And also, one is a bull pup and one is a rifle. I don’t have an Edgun, but I’d imagine them to be much lighter if carrying through the woods is a concern.

Well i can undrstand being torn between the two, but really there is not much about the two rifles that are the same.I dont have a Edgun, i do have a condor.

I think the main thing that you are looking at is do you want to tinker and tune , if you dont mind the gun changing on you with the wheather and retuneing alot then the condor will be fine, if you want to get a gun set up and not touch it for the most part then the edgun is the way to go.

The Condor can shoot as good or better than the edgun , but i think that it takes more tuneing on the condor to get the results. and more tuneing to keep the results, i dont know about the edgun as far as keeping it shooting top notch , but from reading it does have its problems at times also with wheather changes and such.

Me , i like tuneing so i would still get the condor, but if i had 1500 to throw out there i would have a edgun too. ๐Ÿ˜€

after i finish up a few projects, ๐Ÿ˜‰
