Q:

Air Archer with a regulated PSI?

I am curious for those who have done testing with the air archer from Tagdagger or similar.

The Condor .22 tank/valve is recommended, but I was looking toward the JDS airman tank with regulated valve.

If a 12 shot string, starting from 3k PSI, ending @ 2100 PSI and averaging over 400FPS, was regulated @ 2100PSI theoretically we should get a flat power curve and more shots.

My concern is that the JDS valve is too small in comparison to the Condor valve. Any thoughts ? or experiences?

dont forget your TAG brothers in the midst of your fun and post some strings for us(and possibly pics of the engine block the arrow went through…)

So I’m almost there, I got My Air Archer conversion, 4500psi tank, Shoebox
and just received My SCBA fill whip from Joe, (Thank you Joe Brancato)

The Kit is installed in My SS.

Just need to order a .22 condor Highflow tank. (and some over 32deg weather)……

I have the .22cal SS tank and a Co2 valve I’ll try on My tank to compare numbers. Set up the Chrony time, and have a go.

Next step, order the tank!

Reg wouldn’t work, nowhere near enough air to power the arrow. Even a 300psi output reg. Just not enough volume of air on the shot to get it up to speed. Remember, when you are dipping into the whole tank, you got a lot of air on call. A reg has a ‘tiny’ resovoir of air on tap for each shot….

500 Fps is quite cooking! Need to get my own quick fletcher for each shot.

I have the valve from the Co2 I’ll be dismantling and get the correct part ordered from Airforce on Mon to make it a true Condor High flow. I think I’ll try the Regulated tank from Jds, it will be a larger tank and I can always use it for pellet days.
I shot an Email and waiting for more info about his volume.

Back a couple of years ago when I was doing a lot of building and testing on the arrow conversions, with a modified valve I got the arrows up to 500fps. What was interesting was the tank fill was around 2000psi when the speed peaked at 500fps. from a 2,900psi fill arrow speeds would start in the mid 400s and climb to 500 and go down quickly from there. The string was repeatable and I have wondered if regulated pressure would yield good results with the arrows.
It was a hoot seeing(or rather not seeing) an arrow at 500fps,but the increase in noise and recoil was not worth the extra speed, however a larger barrel and breech ID would likely cure both.
I have a etac-reg for my .25, so maybe If I can find the time I’ll do some testing some day.

My Airarcher is a real air hog, and I believe you need a large amount of air to send that arrow at any great speed, so I wonder if the regulators have the volume to do that.

I did try it with the Talon valve, I got 175 FPS, turned it into sort of a recurve. 😕
