Ruger mkIII 6 7/8" Target
Some of you may know that I asked for recommendations on air powered *and* powder burner target pistols. I thank everyone on the forum for your input… I had several recommendations for the Ruger mkII or mkIII.
Well, a buddy had one for sale and I liked the gun. I bought it and modified the grips for hogue wrap target, change the fiber optic sights for notch and post, stripped, and cleaned it.
I went to the range over the weekend, sighted, tested various cartridges, and settled on the one that gave me 1″ groups at 25 yards, open sight 🙂 The brand was Federal Champion Target – Manufacturer #510. Every other cartridge sucked with 2.5-5″ groups. This one shot consistently and predictably.

I just put that grip on my MarkII Target. This ones got a 10″ bull barrel and I just put the Kobra red dot on it.
Be shooting it this weekend hopefully.
Some of the best money i’ve ever spent, can’t beat em. Not much Ruger in this one anymore though. 😉
A volquartzen target grip is indispensible once you try one, need large hands though, some feel it’s too big.
Using Federal Load #510 – Champion Target 22LR 40gn. Chronograph average 1100 fps with a SD of 25 ft/s.
Left – 15 yards standing / Right – 50 yards benchrest

The Mk III’s are great little target pistols. The local range has pin shoots every Monday night and just about everybody there has a Mk II or III. Best part about them, you can shoot it for hours and only be out $20 😆

That ten incher should hold a group! I have never shot one with a barrel that long. A fun toy for sure. You may need a bipod for that bad boy! 😆
