help needed on uk stealth (talon)………low power issue.
Hi guys, I recently bought a used Stealth which im very pleased with, its a year old with a composite hammer, stainless spring and a leupy tophat, so, all good parts. Anyway, having run it over my chrony the other day i found it is running at an average of 10.3 ft pounds, so, i stripped it down following good instruction from this site and pre loaded the hammer spring with four washers thinking this would up the power to the region of 12 ft pounds, but alas no! over the chrony its still reading the same (yes, i am resetting the chrony 🙄 ) So this got me wondering, do the uk stealths have a safety valve within the main valve which operates at a set level of air pressure/volume to keep the gun within the uk limit? Any advice on this matter and how to overcome it would be much appreciated.

My non-FAC TSS will get an enormous boost in power with heavier pellets, like 18fpe to 23fpe by just increasing from 10.6gn to 15.8gn. For your gun try raising from 8.0gn to 10.6gn.

I dont know what the hammer weighs as i didnt specify it as it came with the gun second hand. Its a composit which means the back third of it is brass and the front 2thirds are some sort of dense plastic and its very nicely made.
how much does that hammer weigh? Leupy makes about 1000 different kinds, all cool in their own rights. also, what do you mean “composite”?

What is a FAC (only in the UK?) and what would one need to get one and how much $. Thank God we don’t need one (Yet)
Just prise the stem out of the valve with a couple of screwdrivers on each side.(I just use one screwdriver, its fine)
I did as u suggested ewoodie, but i did not dare drill out to 5mm so drilled to 3mm instead for experimentations sake, put it all back together again, ran it over the chrono, and………OOPS……….remove the hammer spring in double quick time, take out all my pre tensioning washers, all back together again for a healthy and legal 11.6…….nice one ewoodie u solved my problem
Interestingly, i noticed that the rear end of the valve stem also has only a pin prick hole but as i dont have a tool to remove the brass insert at the valve face i couldnt remove the valve stem to take a closer look which is a pity as i would have liked to polish the stem etc. What tool is required to remove the valve face? could i make one?
As for my shooting i am mostly engaged in target shooting in my garden which is quite large and surrounded by fields, my 177 airarms s400 being my favoured rifle, but, having looked at the design of the stealth (mechanically) it made so much sense that i just had to have one (.22) which is also going to be used for paper punching and plinking…..hunting wise i will only shoot vermin that strays onto my land, not rabbits though, i like rabbits!
I think you don’t need to drill out the nut to 5mm ,
If you want to stay legal go for 3,1 mm ( 1/8″ ) think you have more power then, you can lower it with less preload of the hammer spring.
Or use a spacer between the valvestem and the valvehouse.
What are you doing with your rifle, target or hunting?
thanks for that ewoodie…….no, i dont want to exceed the uk limit of 12 ft lbs, but my current 10.3 ish is much too low…..so off with the valve it is!
Safety / anti tamper valve: Yes ,
at the end of the valvehouse in the bottle fits the spring retaining nut, on the new models there is only a hole of 1 mm in the nut.
The factory will stay at the safe side of the law, and better a bit less then FAC.
If you want more power drill out the nut to 5 mm. when you are going
over the 12 ft/lbs YOU NEED A FAC! ( fire arms certificate ).
Also the ( normal ) valve stem is tamper proof, in the middle of the stem is a small part, so you can’t drill out the valvestem.
Take care, if you are going over the 12 ft/lbs, you are a criminal guy.
