Q:

Weird valve problem…

I wanted a bit more power and more umph!

Purchased a .25 barrel and hi-flow valve from TT. Had a BJ shroud
Gun has the stock Talon SS spring with an added Condor weight.
Since I don’t have a real heavy hammer weight it was expected to shoot at some point under 3000psi…2550 seems good

This puppy shoots JSB 25g in mid to upper 900’s with the power wheel set on its lowest setting, I can’t slow it down any more with pw. Well I guess I could adjust the tophat but Mid 900’s is fine and a good speed for these pellets, so I’m happy about this, here is the problem.

I fill the tank to about 2550psi..the 1st few shots are lower fps. This is fine I take a few sho0ts to ck sight in anyhow..I guess I could just fill to 2500 or 2400psi and be set. The first 2-3 shots are low fps..then it kicks in..about 20 shots in the mid 900’s..tank down to 1800-1900psi real sweet.

Here is the problem..after those first 20 shots the gun gets real loud, the gun is still shooting in the upper 800’s and going down in fps..but it gets real loud, and I start to feel puffs of air comming out. The more I shoot it the louder it gets, the more puffs of air.

Don’t know why it does not make any sense, gun louder at 890fps and 1900psi than it was at 950fps and 2400psi.

Shoebox refill the tank to 2500 psi..nice and quiet again.. Ideas ???

hi maybe look here ( page 4 ) :

Marc have a very nice rig with only a 22 grams hammer and a lot of shots, without a bast.

Could be those new orings are sealing real tight and slowing things down some. Makes no sense that a heavier hammer would give you less fps! I suspect as those orings wear in a little the speed will start to rise.

I don’t know what happened and I don’t know how it happened, but it did!

Hit the local hardware shop, picked up a brass machine bushing. This is to replace the stock AF hammer. There is now 92 Grams of hammer and weight inside my gun, before it was around 67. Also replaced my breech orings with some of the duro 90’s.

The gun now shoots in the Mid 900’s…sweet

I will post info in the Tag Recycle Bin area…

The deal…self-addressed stamped envelope

I’ll send some out…I just hope that Duro 90 is the way to go..

They are standard 5/16″id 7/16″od 1/16″ thick D90..

20 Miles west of Cleveland, Oh.

hey newb, i could use a few. those are size 011, breech rings, right? i just got some in viton, duro 70. the softer ones might seal better, but obviously wear faster. 🙁 (by the way, where in OH is grafton? im about 40 miles from the PA/OH state line)

Pabs,

Just to br safe I ordered some o-rings…

these are on the way..

Anyone need any?

moneyshot, you gave perfectly good advice for high power. 😀

Mrnewbie, you could try checking the valve spring retainer at the back of the valve. Screw this in a little(I’m guessing its set to low resistance if TT has tuned it) This will give some extra resistance and slow things down some and hopefully get rid of that puff of air at the lower pressures. You made sure the breech orings are still good?

yea, i just felt bad because i felt the advise was counterintuitive to what you were trying to achieve. i appreciate your gratitude, whether i helped or not. 😀

If you take the spacer it slow down. Give it a try it won’t take but a few minutes and if you don’t like it put it back in.

moneyshot you are correct..you are right!

I don’t see how you offended anyone in any way.

In fact I personally thank you for your advice and help.

Thank you Moneyshot..and you also Pabs. If I’m not sure about something, I ask and appreciate anyones input and help.

I agree with you Moneyshot, a larger hammer weight would open the valve up more and spit more air out. I’m trying to tame the beast a little. I would like to be able to shoot JSB’s or Benji’s in the mid 900’s, and then turn up the pw and shoot some big 43 grainers as well, I want it all.

Did not quite work out, I have been shooting the jsb’s in the low 1000fps and they still seem to group real well..so at this point I’m calling it problem solved

Pabs You are also correct..you are also right!

I did take out the hammer spacer (19gr) and managed to shoot the gun at the 950 fps range at 3000psi with pw at 12-13max ..but same crap..shootin real nice for 25 shots then puffin air. Then I put the weight back in, its easier to just shoot at 2450psi to get 950fps, besides then it keeps the door open for shooting heavy ammo.

Gun does seem to shoot good in the low 1000’s..Im happy and done tearing this thing apart.. Thanks to all

my apologies, i guess i assumed that with a tt valve that you were after big numbers. my heavy hammer/ high pressure solution was geared toward that notion. sorry if i fucking offended anybody, i just find that the best solution for the power hungry(myself) is to rely on that big hammer/big pressure to achieve consistency by minimizing the influence of the mainspring and allowing the valve to sort of self regulate. so now that i know you are after something else, ill see my way clear of this post and offer my advise to someone who can use it. 🙄

😕 😕 😕

well pabs it seems to me that a few on this topic are basically saying in so many words” why does this goof suggest a heavier hammer”, and it jst seems that i misunderstood what his goals were , and so anything i have posted thus far are essentially invalid, so i have been no help and no longer find my opinions welcome or necessary here. i just kinda feel stupid for saying anything at all, and will see my way out. sorry for any confusion my posts have caused. 😥
