Barrel renewal
I have a barrel that got dinged on the breech end – dropped and scratched on concrete to leave some grooves on the lip, and the lip is turned in slightly to the bore in that one small area.
Can I conduct something along the lines of the following to get it back to working order?
1. Resurface the breech end perpendicular to the bore to remove all external deformations and defects.
2. Smooth the area inside the end of the breech back to round.
3. Adjust the bushings forward slightly in order to move the barrel back to mate with the valve.

Thanks for your help on this. I finally dug up a schematic so I can see exactly what you mean about the length not being that critical. Fortunately it wasn’t too badly dinged so I’ve been able to get the scratches out of is and unfold the bent portion. Didn’t have to take off much length at all, so should be negligible effect on the taper for pellet seating.
The length is not that critical, you can shave a little off the end and get away with not moving the barrel in the bushings. However, I’d recommend just trying to gently tap it back into place, smooth the scratches, then redo the inside leade (the gently cut taper so you can seat the pellets easily) a bit. There is no pressure on that end of the barrel, so strength is not an issue. It can be paper thin and will still work just fine.

It looks like I’ll need to remove about a millimeter off the breech end in order to correct the problem, but I didn’t know how much give there would/should be in barrel placement with that little bit removed.
I’ll go ahead with the fix, then before I move the barrel bushings I’ll throw some corn starch or baby powder on it to see what size cloud it blows up around the breech.
If I’m obviously getting a lot of blow-by, then it’ll be time to move the bushings . . .
Step 1 & 2 should correct the problem, and if it’s a small ding, it won’t likely make such a change that step 3 need be done.
Okay, so now I think I must be missing something. Is this so common that everyone knows the answer already? Surely I can’t be the only one who has ever dinged up the end of a barrel? Anyone run into this before?

May as well have. Actually, I dropped it on the concrete floor of my workshop. Apparently, one does not have to be going very fast to fold over the fine edge of the condor barrel breech.
Problem appears to be solved now. As long as I didn’t manage to bend the barrel at the same time I dinged up the breech, I think I’ll be okay. Just may have to use a little Kentucky windage . . .
