Q:

Shoulder Strap Mount & Use

I worried about hooking the strap to the tank might cause too much stress on the frame so I came up with this:

I put my hand up thru the lower right loop around to the left of the padded end and under the fore end grip. With the strap around my upper ARM I have steady tri-angular hold from upper ARM to rifle and with elbow held down against ribs, a good light tri-angular hold from elbow to rifle to shoulder.

I made a heavy metal ring to hold the strap out just a little from the rear hole in the frame. The AR-15 type grip allowed access to the hole.

I may need to upgrade to the WOKGARD-15 to prevent frame flex.

Any criticism and suggestions would be appreciated.

You may need to add some sling material as slings really can add to accuracy.

Randy,

I’m learning that there is a big difference in slings. Mine, an Outdoor Connection made in Waco Texas just doesn’t seem to extend far enough to do a port arms or military patrol carry.

If I got a longer sling I wonder if I could get my triangular hold wrapping it around my left upper arm?

My powderburners are tactical (CAR-15 type) in nature.

When pesting I carry my rifle slung across my chest with the muzzle slightly down makes my shooting way quicker.

If I sling it over my back I tend to ding the rifle on posts and such.

That looks good Randy 💡

It also brings up another question.
❓ ❓ ❓
I would like to hear discussion of what are the considerations involved in carrying the rifle on a sling with the muzzle down or should it be muzzle up ❓ I didn’t get any rifle training in Boy Scouts or The Civil Air Patrol so I’m sure there is a right way, a wrong way, and the Navy way.

This is how I did my .25 Condor sling as stressing the bottle collars concerns me.

i have my moments 😎

… what about a side mount? drill, tap a hole through the side of the lower wing, below the valve collar. food for thought.

Sounds like a winner longhunter 💡
May need to avoid the collar set screws but one of those should probably go in from above like Roachcreek did.

I’ll buy one ❗

have to agree, the further away, the more leverage. what about a side mount? drill, tap a hole through the side of the lower wing, below the valve collar. food for thought.

What about getting a sling stud and tap a hole through the back bottom side of the grip. Then get a nut that will fit the stud.

We’re still working with an aluminum frame. IMO, a mount any distance from the frame could cause it to twist with a little pressure on the hold.

Oh that sucks. I saw the battery holder one and thought of trying to make a pellet holder out of it.

benneeb0y,

The Hogue grip had some kind of insert but supposedly it fell out to easy so I didn’t get it.

Interesting. What about a extra long grip screw with a sling stud on it?

That’s a very good idea but would throw off the ease of the triangular hold.

But, if sturdy enough long grip bolt with sling stud end were available that would make for a good carry sling mount. Then if we could find a sling with quick disconnect, we could switch positions and connect to the frame for best hold for shooting.

Yeah guess not the best for the tri hold. I wonder if there is an Hogue grip insert that could be modded for this?

Neat idea for the trihold.

Nice work Lurker!!
