P-Rod… what do people think.
I’m just looking around and I’ve read many posts on the P-Rod… but wanted to get someone’s honest opinion… Does the P-Rod shoot straight and is it powerful enough for backyard pest removal?
I’ve owned a 22 M-Rod for 24 hours and hated the accuracy… does the P-Rod have the same problems?

Great report. It sounds like it would make a great pest removal tool at back yard distances. And the pellet selection is very reasonable.
I have owned one for about two weeks now.
First, let me emphasize, I have not had a chance to run it over my chrony or test it completely.
To my surprise, the gun is quiet, especially at the top end of fill pressure. As it is shot down, it gets some louder but, not much.
It is a back yard friendly gun.
I shot it the other day when a neighbor lady was standing outside talking to someone and neither of them heard the shot.
So far, I have made no adjustments to the gun.
I am getting prepared for a power up IF I decide to do it.
Poly tube, extended shroud, #32 bit for a .116 port hole.
My impressions of the gun ” carbine mode for me ” is that it a little jewel.
I have already bagged a sack full of starlings with it.
On the negative side, it appears to be pellet picky.
The ones that shoot good are Beeman FTS, H&N FTT, H&N Baracuda with a 5.53 head size.
In stock form it comes set at around 12-13 ft-lb from everything I have read on them.
A power mod can take it to 20+ ft-lb depending on pellet used.
Open transfer port and change or shim hammer spring.
Both simple and inexpensive mods.
To put it simply, I love this gun and have trouble putting it down.
Here is a group shot with Beeman FTS @ 20 yards. I know ten and twenty yards is nothing to crow about but it does show potential.
Also a five shot group @ 10 yards with the 21.1 Baracudas.
UpDate: I have modded my p-rod for more power.
In carbine form it has a Jim Gaska shroud extension that works good even at high power, a PPG .041 power spring, and new port opened to 7/64 or .109.
I am getting 18 ft-lb with 14.6 FTS/FTT, 19 ft-lb with 21.1 Baracudas 5.53 head size, and 20 ft-lb with 28.4 EunJin s.
Gun is accurate, powerful, and a joy to shoot.

I kept tripping over the poly tubing, and once the barrel tip came up and tore out all my nose hair on the left side!!!
I usually go to the hardware store and clip off an inch and tuck it in my pocket. Then, so as not to attract attention…I set my shirt on fire and run screaming out the back door.
Never a problem, but complications can arise.
I had a long tailed shirt on once, and burned all the hair off my back and butt cheeks!!! So exercise caution.

No no no no…..100 feet is WAY too long for a poly tube. You need perhaps a half inch!
If you have been using 30 to 40 feet of poly tube on tranfer ports, just cut a half inch off of one of the other guns and use that. Performance degradation on the other rifle will be minimal….trust me!
I was wondering why it was so hard to aim… 30-40ft was a bit of a drag – all that coiling and bunching – and if it kinked I would get a dud shot.
I really like mine.
I’ve taken 6 crows from 20-35 yards all were clean kills.
My first 2 were with a stock gun.
I’ve done the polly port mod also.
And I’ve taken, a fox squirrel at 60 yards, 10 rabbits.
So the gun is up taking pests, you need to shoot it too get good with the gun.
With a short barrel, any movment will throw off your shot more so, than using a riffle. 😯

Hoot, thank you. I saw your posts on the poly tube. 100ft is the most I need. Most often 30-40ft.

If you put a poly tube replacement for that piss-hole OEM transfer tube, then yes…it will bitch slap anything within 100 feet, or further.
Mine was getting 650 fps with 18gr JSB pellets and there is a stronger spring you can order to replace the hammer spring to bring that speed up to 700+ fps. That’s about all the mods you would need, except to extend the shroud a bit further to quiet it down a bit. Marmot_militia makes a neat folding stock adapter for the P-rod and shroud extensions too.
If you want to get fancy, I believe he can put an LW barrel on it as well.
He did some stuff to mine and I was very pleased. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I use Diablo Pellets and Kodiak’s.
The only pellet my Marauds in 22 caliber don’t like is the EJ, although for the distance the P-Marud shoots a 3/8’s group with EJ’s. So being that’s the 25 yards it is supposed to be good for, I don’t see why it is an issue.
My 77 and 25 caliber maraud likes anything I put in them. The 22 is a tack driver with Diablos,, Isn’t that what Ed recommends in his Gun?

Here is the site that sells the spring you want. It comes with a rod in it, for the 22XX guns. Just toss that and use the spring to replace the P-rod spring.
