12" 22 vs 25 LW Brls – The .25 Cal Is The Winner
Well we have tested ourselves silly with both the 22 and 25 cal 12″ barrels in Stubby with the Extreme and Hi-Flow valves and there is one very obvious conclusion. Get the .25 barrel. It generally shoots more accurately, with more power, with more pellets than the 22 in nearly all conditions we tested. Although I own both there is basically no reason to consider the 22 barrel. Nothing makes up for the slight difference in trajectory and the .25 pellets all had better BCs then their 22 equivalents.
I tested basically H&N (Match 21.14 5.51mm and 5.53, 31.02), JSB (14.3, 18.1, 25.4), Eun Jin (28.4, 32.3, 35.8, 42.3), Benjamin (14.3, 27.8), Predator (16, 26), Crow Magnums (18.3, 26.2).
The 22 only shot the H&Ns and lighter JSBs and the Benjamins 14.3s pretty well. The 25 shot every pellet tested except the Eun Jins very well and I blame the pellets or the short barrel leade for that. The 25 pellets also generally stayed stabile for longer distances.

Love that gun and the .25, for power and stability.
Makes me wonder if the 25 pellet manufactures designed and tested on LW 25 barrels exclusively.

I have a dead tree sticking up in the woods in my backyard and all of the starlings and sparrows take a rest up there. It is exactly 75 yards to the main trunk with my Leupold rangefinder. The last few evenings before dark I have been picking them of with .25 Predators. I am just amazed at the accuracy and stability for Predators out to that distance and that is using the hi-flo valve. The 12″ 22 barrel in my Stubby or 24″ 22 barrel in my Condor both don’t like Predators. I am lucky to get maybe a 1-1/4″ group at 50 yards. The .25 12″ barrel does 1/2″ groups normally and better from the gun vise but I am still shooting off of a Caldwell stable table and shooting bag.
