Q:

100yd. groups, benjis… not so good

tried some benjis today, definitely not the pellet of choice. kodiaks are still the best, 100 rounds at 100 yds. i pulled a couple, but otherwise i’m happy. targets are 1inch red square with a 2inch box.<a href=”http://s1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa479/Scott_Decker/?action=view&current=DSC08370.jpg&#8221; target=”_blank”><img src=”http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa479/Scott_Decker/DSC08370.jpg&#8221; border=”0″ alt=”100yd. group/benji domes”></a>

settled on a 2900 psi fill w/ a 2200 psi finish.

Be careful there is a troller on this forum trying to do identity/ID theft posing as a “new” slug supplier. I notified the Moderator when he contacted me with a private message and they probably shut him down but he could come back under another ID. In the text he sent me he broken english like he has a Chinese accent if that is possible. What this guy did was to send a phishing link to try to make you logon to your email and capture your credentials.[/quote

that’s why i refuse to do buisness over the net. you never know who’s looking over your shoulder. some of these bastards are petty damned slick. others, like the one you entioned, are pretty obvious. gotta give him an “A” for effort 😆 😆

Thats cool , it’ all about what a guy wants to do , you could get the pellets to perform if you wanted to take the time, but lets move on, here is a target with some low 900’s kodiak groups to compare with. the tightest group was 935,906,935,944,928 fps. the preceding groups were in the high 800’s.

my groups at 1000fps with the kodiak are a little bigger than the 800 fps groups , these are at 50 yards.

When I get my shit together I will be making my own dies. Probably a lot of trial and error but equal amounts of self gratification if I produce just 1 good design.

I have been looking at these Corbin swages for airgun pellets. I can buy a lot of bullets for a set of swaging dies.

I’m the same way. I’ve been thinking about swagging my own design. I need to get my little miller assembled or get a four jaw chuck for my atlas laithe. Pretty soon I’ll have my shit together.

haven’t tried the surefires, yet. i’m planning on it, though. i’m just one of those people that can’t leave well enough alone, that’s why i bought a condor, cause i can play with it!

Did you try Surefire slugs?

i think that’s why i can push the kodiaks a little faster, they seem to have a slightly thicker skirt. i may tune it down a little more, but not much, i bought the bird with the intention of shooting actual bullets, eventually. i have a hollow base minie design i’m working on, i just need to find someone willing to make the mold. i may have to change design, because a hollow base, nose pour with a 1/8th inch sprue hole ( wich would translate into a 1/8th inch metplat ) may be too small a scale to be feasable, in .25 cal. might be a real bitch to pour, as well.
as far as the rest, think of two pieces of tubing cut in half lengthwise to cradle the tank and the frame, each on a post, mounted to a “T” shaped base with adjustable feet. the gun is cradled in the tubing then strapped down to the tubing itself, thereby negating any possibility of torquing the connection between the tank and frame, affecting accuracy.

All of these diablo pellets skirts start deforming at very high velocities somewhat but lighter BDs probably a bit more.

ok, first things first. i want to keep the velo. where it’s at, around 1030 to start. second, i don’t sort pellets, i’m not a paper puncher. seven good pellets out of 25 is not a very good average, considering what you pay for them. i only tried them because they were given to me. the kodiaks give me very good groups, good fpe. , out of 100 rounds and only a handful of flyers( some were my fault ) that’s a lot of squirell stew we’re looking at, there. even at that range. 🙂

😆 😆

Well if you want to stay at a specific velocity and just try pellets until you get one to shoot the way you want ,OK. but you have to vary the velocity to find the best spot for the pellet.

No pellet should go unweighed when wives are around. 😀

Weight wise, I find the benji’s very consistent in the tins I’ve sorted. I have yet to do roll sorting. My wife thinks I weigh them just to ignore her. 🙄 She’s partly right. 😀 Anyways benji domes shoot great out of my AAA in the mid to high 900’s. Better than kodiaks. Although I haven’t shot them since I’ve learned my gun. I picked some up at the CT show today so I’m gonna try them again. If the first tin groups poorly, I will gift the other 2 hear on TAG.

longhunter i think you missing the big picture here , most pellets need sorting , if you look at your Benjamin dome target there is a beautiful 5 to 7 shot 1/2″ GROUP in the middle of that mess.if you had sorted those pellets , ????????? Who knows? ,,,

The Benjamin dome are most likely the same pellet as the crosman Ultra Magnum dome pellet , i have shot these and they need sorting , i haven’t made up my mind yet if these pellets can replace the crosman premier dome in the brown box yet with sorting but i am working on it when i can.

I am comparing the crosman ultra mag, crosman hp, and the brown box premier, and with sorting i think they all shoot similar, but when you sort the brown box premier, you might have a slightly more consistent pellet.

the crosman dome pelelts will shoot at the velocity you are trying , but they will group better if you slow them down, in the low 900’s they will shoot better, and i am not sure yet but they might even group the best at right at 800 fps.

I have shot may best groups with the JSB 14 grain and 18 grain , and the crosman brown box premier.

You could take the grip off and drill a hole through a 2×4 or some sort of contraption and bolt the gun down to it.
