The R & L steel shroud I have is a remarkably quiet piece of equipment, but it weighs 11 oz, is 12″ long, and that is a lot for a Talon Stubby.
What would happen if I cut the seven 1″ long baffles in half, and reduced the shroud extender by 6″?
While I retain the same number of baffles, I also reduce my extended shroud’s air expansion volume by 1/2.
However, the adapter that the extended shroud screws into does not vent air into the Talon shroud. This can easily be remedied with a few vent holes in the adapter, and the back barrel brace, thus opening up about 7″ of Talon frame to absorb excess back pressure when firing.
Further relief could be obtained by venting the back of the frame with a few small vent holes.
Anyone think I could achieve the same sound reduction level in this manner?

i think to be effective you will have to loose baffles to create a larger 1st chamber.

Is better baffling acheived by the largeset chamber being first and porportionally sizing down ? Equal size chambers might just be for ease of manufacturing.
