My used AA410
As many of you know and have read about the circumstances, I bought a used AA410 off of Love my Talon SS, aka Gary, a couple of weeks ago.
It was advertised at $600.00, now I would not dream of sending 600 bucks off to an unknown person for a AA410 with a Hawk Sidewinder scope since being fucked in the ass by Mitch Glover a year or more ago.
Add to that the fact that some crooks are daily screwing folks on the AA classifieds, selling guns they do not have, as I write this.
But most of us know Gary, and altho he is having a bit of a bad road lately, which we all hope will bring him to some better days, he has always been a man of his word.
I recieved the package from Gary the other day and opened it and found a AA410 carbine in 22 caliber with a rather mutilatd stock and a very heavy Hawke Sidewinder 6x24x56 with the Map 12 reticle. The metal work on both the gun and scope were about 98%or better, but the birch stock had been skeltonized and the rough wood covered with stain and a liberal dose of probably Tru Oil, read that rasp marks and laquer runs, but WTF he sold me a $600.00 rilfe with a quaility scope, a harris bipod and a tactical soft case.
I was money ahead, unless I bought a walnut stock from Pyramyd $275.00, at which case I would still be in the ball park on money spent vrs actual value. I figured I could always make the stock look better.
But first I needed to get that heavy scope off what appeared to be a handy little carbine, I did not want to buy a new scope right now, I am in the middle of a land dispute/Lawsuit on the other side of the world and it is taking a lot of my airgun money, so a new scope and a new stock are and were out of the question. I thought about the scope on the Ranger 45, a Burris Fullfield 2×7, but it has no AO and would not take advantage of the accuracy I was hoping for on the AA410, so instead I traded scopes with my Condor 25 which had a 5×15 3200 mildot Tactical, that made the carbine much more livable.
First thing I wanted to do was to sight it in at 80 yards, I have a favorite Doug Fir that is a crow magnet and so I need that range first of all.
First thing I did was crony the carbine with 18.1 JSB’s and much to my pleasure, It as averaging 932 FPS/35FPE for the first magazine, and 908FPS/33FPE for the second mag, after that it falls like a brick.
So I get good 18 shots, because I only put 9 in the magazine, perhaps it has been tweaked to get that velocity, I don’t know but that was the velocity I was after when I started looking for a upgrade/repeater rifle.
So far everything was looking good, but then I shot the little gun.
At 25 yards I got what should read correctly as .04 not .004 🙄 for 5 JSB 18 grainers c-t-c on the actual hole.

At 50 yards, which I did not take a picture of, with a 5 MPH cross wind, I got .50 inches for 5 shots.
I then checked Chairgun and saw that with a 50 yard zero, I should be dropping 5.8 inches or three Mildots at 15 power which is also where my true mildot is on the 5×15 tactical.
I shot 4 shots at 80 yards, then had to reload, the wind changed, putting the 5th shot just a tad out of the group, but I shot this group which is a hair under .88 for all 5 shots and exactly 5.8 inches low, I think it can do better and as you can see the aiming point is about that size also.
I went after the stock with a wood rasp and then from 180 grit down to 600 grit, then some OOO steel wool to dull the finish and smooth up the wood and runs, I still need to stain the raw wood, but I don’t have any stain on hand yet, then I will put a dull oil looking finish by appling True oil correctly and rubbing it with OOO wool when it sets up.

So far I have tried three shots on game, 35 yards off hand, 50 and 80 yards with a rest, and I am batting 100%, 3 shots 3 hits.
I have the Condor 25 sighted in with the big Hawke on it, I have 50, 65, 76, 80, 101,112,122 and 132 aiming points with the Map 12 reticle on 12 power, it seems to be a clear scope. and fits the Condor much better than the AA410.

Life is good.

Roachcreek
