Q:

New Shroud

Started on a shroud for the .22 condor. Not the way I want to do it but it will work for now. Used 3 set screws per end to hold it together. It will thread together next time. Had to make something because it is just plain to loud without a shroud. I’m afraid the neighbors are going to call the cops if I keep firing it in my garage. With the .25 I shoot it with the door open. I close the door when I fire the .22. It is a lot nicer even with no baffels in it. I will make delrin baffels that slide in. I will see what I can come up with to see how close I can get to the TT shroud on my .25.

Works great. Quieter than my .25.

I guess it is around that size. It has no feed. I have a Bridgeport 9×42 mill also with DRO.

When you say small is it one of those 7×10 ? You are doing some very nice work there. Looks good.

It is the next pic after the end cap. That is taking a pic down the shroud. The lathe I have right now is small. The shroud is 16″ long and I can’t even turn down the OD. Just can’t wait for the 1640 to show up.

Can you post a picture of your delrin bushing used to center your shroud ?
What size lathe are you making all this with ?

Just can’t see down into the baffle to see how the end is designed. Hopefully milled into a Reflex just like the end cap.

By the way, what tooling technique did you use to make the Reflex curve on the end cap ?

Baffles are delrin and are push in tight fit.

So you milled a reflex into the end cap but what about each baffle ?
Reflect is bad. Reflex is good.

How are the baffles built (tube and welded washer) ?

Well I think I got it figured out. It is pretty quiet. I fired the .25 and the .22 side by side and the .22 is quieter. They sound different though. I still need to vent the bushing on the .22. Going to take it to a friends shop and turn the OD down .035 to loose some weight. Tubing is .090 and I’m taking it down to .060. It is to long for my lathe. Still going to experiment with internals and see if i can get it any better.

So even if you make a screw in cap, what gives the rigidty for alignment ?

Mounts the same way the TT shroud does. Here it is next to my TT shroud. The only problem I have with the TT shroud is how thin it is where the set screw goes. I have put The TT shroud to the test and it is well made. The amount of pressure it gets when I shoot 43 gr at 1050 fps. I even had a eunjin clip the inside and not come out. Shook it for a while and out popped almost a whole pellet. So the shroud took a full power hit inside and is still fine. I kinda want it to come apart so I can see how it’s made inside. I put a second set screw on the top of my gun mine because it was trying to push it of the end of my gun. I made mine .040″ thicker so I can put a small dimple for the set screw. Going to be hard to improve on how quiet it is. I will be happy if I can equal it.

What I think I see in your design is a reducer where you mount to the frame ? I don’t know what the mounting end of a TT shroud is like, but won’t you forego using the volume in the frame by restricting with that reducer ?
