What is so bad about the AirForce Bipod mounting
I jsut had a conversation in the For Sale section where the AirForce Bipod is described as
You’ll need an adapter but its ok because the AF bipod is absolute crap anyways. It doesn’t stay tight because they made a super cheap dovetail mount, what good is the dovetail mount in the first place if you have to futz with the bipod to keep it on the rifle.
The AF bipod doesn’t cant either, if you cant you loosen the screw that holds the bipod to the dovetail mount and eventually it will fall off or your rifle will tip to one side and fall over on it’s side…
Here is a picture of one and it seems to have a washer under the screw head to keep it in.
What was the bent ultra thin piece of metal in the quote above ?

If it’s not super tight the bolt will fall out while your using it.
If the bolt is super tight any cant, even just minor cant from use will make the bolt loose.
If you can, send it back and get a refund!!! 😕
Spend the extra $30 for a Harris. 😉 😉 😉
Thanks for the details. I see what you mean. Maybe it was not designed to be tight, but free pivoting. I’ll experiment when the Condor arrives.
Ordered Mid June, just shipped today.
Get a decent top down view of this area with the red oval pictured… The more you tighten the front screw the more elongated the hole becomes… And that rubs against the other part and creates friction and wear.
Then use it and cant the rifle slightly and watch the mount loosen up at the from allen bolt… Or try to cant it after you tighten it up… Even if you reconfigure the mount it will still loosen as you use it…
You can resolve one of the major issues by milling and reconfiguring the mount? 🙄 And your asking what is wrong with it? 🙄 Btw, I don’t think it will be as simple as just flipping the mount, sure it LOOKS like it will work but it will rub against your frame… Did you try it? 😕 If it works they changed something recently then… But it looks like the same one they have been selling for years.
A good canting bipod should have a cant lock system, if you even need to cant.
I had never owned a bipod and knew this thing was a p.o.s. when I took it out of the box. Then it didn’t function for shit and my thoughts were confirmed 100%…
The WHOLE thing is about cutting costs, I think AF makes the rifle with those shitty rails just to sell their shitty shit and save lots of cash. It should have a Weaver rail at the very least.
Judging by AF’s latest cost cutting, anything ‘new’ from AF is even worse than before. The rifles were good, but according to experienced AF users, the new stuff is bad.
Avoid ANYTHING from AF other than the rifle. 😉
The Bipods WERE wobbly,, lose, came apart etc.
Well I have a new AF bipod and rather than throw it out, maybe this is a newer design with some fixes to the problems ???
True, it’s nothing like my 2 pound Israeli made Command Arms Tactical Bipod (which Harris can’t hold a candle to).

I can resolve the cant fall over, by top mounting the bipod then it self levels.
AG, don’t bother going any further. The AF bipod is shit. Its shit for lots of reasons.Take it from the many users that have tried it,(including me) ITS SHIT, PERIOD.
Did I mention the AF bipod is SHIT?
Go with a Harris or a decent clone.
By the way, AF bipods are really shit. 😉
