Q:

Trying to improve the R&L Short Shroud on the Stubby.

Well my Stubby arrived earlier in the week. Love the rifle. It is powerful, accurate and short. Almost bullpup short. So I scope it and start shooting. The R&L short shroud is effective but there was still some pop. Not much but a little louder than I would like.

So I headed to Lowe’s and picked up a couple of compression springs. I forget the size, I believe the length is 3″. I just eyeballed them and they fit, so if I can most anyone could.

I tried several different configurations, even replacing one cup with two smaller PVC end caps that I drilled out. I’m going to experiment again with the PVC. I think that doubling the amount of cups from 4 to 8 would probably work well too.

So far, this has been the most effective. I used the supplied cups, the springs and some washers that fit. This seems to have eliminated the pop and now you can hear a hissing push of air. I would think that this wound indicate a need for more disruption and turbulence . I also wonder if some of Ed’s pinholes would help.

Cups are set facing with springs and washers inside. Springs allow separation and the cups hold the washers square.

Randy R&L will make your shroud as long as you want if you want more cups. I had a 4 cup one on Stubby for a while but like the shorter 3 cup one and it is quiet enough for my 2 acre lot with 20 acres of woods behind it. He will probably trade you for the 3 cup. You can put a 7 cup one on if you really want it quiet like Hoot.

There’s really nothing more to show. It’s a compression fit with the spring being slightly longer than the two cups together, so there is a slight amount of spring force to hold everything together.

I actually think the shorter PVC endcaps are going to perform better. I will more match the Ed gun baffle stack. My rifle is currently running 30fpe or so and there’s no reason why it can’t sound as good as the Edgun. It’s close now but can be improved on.

I’ll try and pick up some tomorrow.

Id definitly like to hear more of the ideas you come up with. Please put up more pics of the ezact way its put together. Does it screw on the first bushing or is it the compression fitting? I was thinking about having a new centering piece made up so there would only be 3 pedals around the barrel. the same size as they are now. It would def allow more air in the frame. Right now theres only a couple 1/16 spaces for it to escape.
