Wild idea to make some 55 gr pellets
Jerry – what if I bought some 8-9 rings, so I can get a grip with the drill chuck and I razor cut off a ring or so to get a nice 55+- gr pellet. You think that might work ?
Or can you pour some 5 rings by filling one of the 7-8-9 ring molds short so the fill stops at a ring ?

Just shoot the 6 rings and be down with it. Unless you run a larger tank you only get about 5 good full power shots and it starts dropping fast. Burn a lot of air real fast.
not trying to bogart the thread, but, i got a catalog from P>A> the other day. have you seen the new H&N ” rabbit magnum ll ” ? if they started making them in .25, that would be a barn burner. i’m no expert, but, by the look of them if they were .25 they might come close to 55 gr. , unless they made the cavity deeper.

I don’t say that flipantly. Remember the .22 experiment? I had one of the testers call me with some great results but in the end, the project was a failure despite being based on the success of the .25 and the one tester who had good results.
As an aside, I test things for a living. Currently, I test USMC combat helicopters. I’ve tested everything from airborne computers to F18s to helo gunships (my favorite) and the one thing I can tell you is that there is always someone to tell you how great something is before the test. That’s the same guy that says the test was crap when his baby turns out to be ugly!
I’ve gone on record here as the guy who paid for and tested the .22 project and I had to admit my baby was ugly and I killed the project. I have the mold, we could cast and sell .22 slugs tonight but we wont.
There’s more to this than knowing the facts, there’s the satisfaction of acting with integrity and maintaining a standard that your peers respect and can count on. That’s a lot more valuable than a couple thousand .22 sales.
And, because I’m not alone in the above belief, the latest USMC attack helicopter is the baddest ass machine you ever didn’t see!
Jerry, do you think the smaller slug would work? Or perhaps a better question is, what are the odds of it working? 😉

We don’t make 8 ring slugs anymore as the demand was not there. They worked great but nobody bought the damn things. We’ll be happy to sell you as many 6,7,9 rings as you care to puchase and if you want to cut them up…fine. Just don’t present any results (great or bad or medium) as being a Surefire Casting result and I’ll be good with it. The result will be a Airgunner mod result which might be great or not.
No, you can’t short fill a mold. Even if you had a computer controlling the pour, short filling a mold would result in a crap slug. I don’t want to sound more arrogant than you might already think I am but if you do any casting, you’ll know within a couple minutes that the short pour idea won’t work.
