Q:

Selph Valve

Was wondering what was wrong with the selph valve stem? I picked up one in the for sale section and it comes with a Blod replacement stem. I have Blod valve already and the steph stem looks nice. It has 4 ports instead of 3. Is it the material is made out of? Thanks

Yeah it kinda sucks in away. Everybody always wants something made or fixed.

I was just poking fun at ya… 😉

From what I have seen your beyond the hobby phase! 😆

Blod, thanks again for the stem, above and beyond the call my friend!!!

I looked at it and took some measurements. The relief cut for the end of the threads is to deep. The Blod stem hole is actually .005″ bigger. “Machinest” no hobbiest yes. I’m capable of making all kinds of things and have.

Thanks. I just opened it when I got home and looked at it real quick. I won’t use it, just was curious. Now I have something to copy. Do you need it Sean ?

Hey there.
I just finised the program for the valve bodys.
I’ll be starting the program for the stems very soon. If you have a busted stem, i’ll replace it for you foc. I’ll need the damaged/broken 1 to take a measure. You crazy cowboys are still in metric denial and my brain only works in base 10.
May be another week or so as am gunna tweek the program 1st to make the 9mm body. I got one to re’make for Lycan as the bobbys took the last 1 i did for him.
Later dudes.
Sean

Ok Mr. “Machinist”… 😆

It’s actually a Selph valve. 😉 Brad Selph is the guy who had them fabricated.

Check the spot “shoulder” on the stem where the threads end, notice anything ‘funky”? 😉 The wall is probably just over 0.01: thick at that point and the shoulder is a right angle (stress riser) and the threads were cut too deep.

That was my valve and I never used the original stem since it was going to break like the sun will rise in the morning… ❗ Instead I sent it to the UK and had a replacement made from the Blodmeister himself. As far as I know it’s the only Blod stem this side of the ‘pond’. Turn around time was close to three months since I sent it right around thanksgiving and the shop was a bit chilly during the UK winters…

If you do use the original stem it WILL break and you will have to bleed the tank empty by using the busted section of stem with the top hat on it.

If you want to do the whole TAG community a huge service make a few replacement stems for that valve based on the good one! 😉

But what ever you do don’t use the original one, unless you REALLY want to break it… 😯 😆

I probably should have chucked it but I figured if I or anyone else needed a replacement it would be good to have the undamaged original.

Here is a shot of a damaged stem:

And here is a photo I took of the original unbroken stem you currently have…

My one the stem just broke off. I dont know if it was what it was made from or because it was not finished right and there was a stress point left at the end of the thread.
