just found this http://www.dealextreme.com/p/fandyfire-stl-v2-cree-xm-lt6-5-mode-1000-lumen-white-3-led-flashlight-black-2-x-18650-91136

if it actually does 3000 lumen it will be a super buy…. i dont have 40 to blow on this or i would of…i already got a 3kl flashlight….

i got a little write up for the other flashlight thread about the batteries…but also got a 6 mo kid on my lap…more to come

the short version though : Tenergy

Ternergy 18650 3.7v 2600mah PCB/protected batteries are the best value right now

Tenergy also makes a charger that can do two batteries at a time which is best value also

I ordered the flashlight, charger with batteries and 1 set of extra batteries. I love a good deal on quality items!!

quote Harryparatestis:

They make a drop in Replacement bulb that works in a Maglite? I have a 3 D model that I would love to be a little brighter 😀

yes and no….they make a couple of dropins that will work after a little fiddeling !

they have an xml dropin(1000lumen), its very good but needs at least 5 cells and honestly 6 cells are more suited, very long throw, very bright, spill is not the best, but this thing will light up a tree at a 100y easily

they also do 5xR2 module supposedly 1200 lumens, should work on lower voltage maglite’s like the 3D, i got one in the mail for my 4D maglite…more to come when it arrives…voltage is 3-8.4, given that the 3D has 3.6v with rechargeables or 4.5v with alkalines…it should work fine

the r2 leds are concentrated good throwers to begin with, so with 5 of them this thing should be bright ! and with good throw

add some two AA to 1D converters, and you can run your 3D-6D on AA’s it makes a huge weight difference, so much lighter !!!

beware you might need to grind or machine reflector…som say it will drop right in others mod…the xml module needs a few mm taken off the reflector to fit perfectly…also some stuff needs to be modded for it to work with the switch and all that….not to hard to do though

have this on my condor ,run time is great, and it is very bright, can pick up targets up to 100 yards in scope just fine

i have this from cabela’s , it’s really brighter than i need most of the time, so i use the small coast light the most.

if you light of the sun junkies need a small light that works great check out the coast led lensers at home dept and lowes. 😆

the coast light are really well built,i have this one that i use for everthing off the gun, same battey great life as the smaller one mounted on the condor

diggin around to try find info….i wanted to figure what is going on in my fandy light as my firesword seems at least twice as powerful in a dark room….

turns out the latest shipmens are NOT 3000 lumen, it simply does not draw enough current to be a 3000 lumen…if it was it should be gulping down around 3-4A and its only taking 1.7A….which suggest around 1300-1500 lumen…..gdamn it….fucking chinese cheating baster mother fuckers….

my 6 cell(six D cell rechargeable) maglite with the delextreme dropin xml is currently the best thrower flashlight i got…..and it beat the fandyfire, by a fair margin, still for close up and everyday use the fandy fire wins big time with better spill and still pretty good throw.

so for a camping trip everyday use i would go with the fandy fire or a 502b with xml

for neighborhood walk where you want something for self defence i would go with maglite or my google flashlight….both will suck to be struck by 🙂

two hours is pretty good if not excelent ! consider old incandescent flashlights of yesterday…they would suck down 4xD cells in the same time, or at least get pretty dim after 2 hours

IR filter on a white led is almost useless, the led does not put out much IR light, and the filter is just that a filter, it does not turn white light into IR, it merely stops the white light from getting through and only the IR light gets through

an because of the narrow spectrum these leds have theres just not much to come after

there is a great 3 core 3W IR led http://www.dealextreme.com/p/high-powered-3w-infrared-ir-drop-in-module-for-wf-502b-style-flashlights-8-4v-12625

i got that sucker, and its pretty powerful, it works great with gen1 and sony cameras/ security cameras etc…..its too bright for 2nd gen and up for close quarter stuff, for long range i guess its ok

Good info again CYG. Guess I won’t bother making an IR lens for a white light LED.

Got part of my DX order so I put 2 Tenergy 2600mAh batteries with magnets in my 1600 lm Zoom torch for a test run. Got 2 hr 15 min at full power til one battery died. The head reached 134 deg. wblhile the batteries were 121 & 114 degthe one that was decreasing voltage slightly faster was the slightly cooler one. The DEAD battery had flat lined at 0.000V and did not begin to recover for at least 10 minutes so I put it on 600mA charge and after about 10 min. it piped up to 3.56V. I’m guessing it shut off at around 3.5V.

I charged the 2 batteries to 4.16V and put them back to test. This test is at MEDIUM Hopefully I’llpower. This still puts out a very bright white focused square pattern matching the LED shape.

The 1600 lumen is prob ably over rated but it lights up the tree tops 350+ feet down the road.

After the battery shut down after supposedly 1600 lm use for 2 hr 15 mins. I’d say the current demand is to much for continuous high power. But, with a 4.16V charge on the same batteries I am now at 1 hr 45 minutes on medium power and the head is only 102 degrees.

got the fandyfire flashlight…..3 xml’s supposedly 3000 lumen…..runs on two 18650.

build and all that crap is fine, the head is heavy suggesting large heatsink…

in the bathroom which is my dark room LOL my firesword (four mc-e’s 3000 lumen, four 18650 batteries and a 400$ pricetag) when comparing them in a small room shining up against the ceiling the firesword seems twice as bright…hmmm…also more yellow….and the fandy is more purple/bluish tint

hmm so not looking so good but then i noticed the center of this flashlight is brighter hmmmm

so took it outside when it got dark…all of a sudden the difference between this 45$ flashlight was the firesword wasnt as different as in the bathroom test

actually it was able to light up tree’s about 100 yards away about twice as much as the firesword…so maybe thats where the 3000 lumen is hidden ?!? right in the middle of the beam….hmmm not too shabby, still good spill….compared to a P7 and a single xml theres at least twice the light perceivable, how to measure lumens i dont know…so its brighter than a single xml or at least brighter than any single xml i have…both in throw and spill

so verdict….pretty cool flashlight for the money….has 5 modes with memory so it remembers what you left it at….after 10 minutes of comparing flashlight the head bare seemed warm…and thats cool !

runtime etc i dont know….not sure im gonna try find out…it takes so frigging long 🙂

http://www.cree.com/products/pdf/XLampXM-L.pdf

i have been looking and searching on how they get that 1600 lumen rating….xml is supposed to be 1000 lumen led…and i for the life of me cannot figure out how to get 1600

as i figured the 1600 lumen is bullshit marketing hype…still nice flashlight just no where near 1600 lumen

http://budgetlightforum.com/node/3603

havent seen that one….but theres a big difference in led light and light from a glow wire light bulb…

the glowwire lightbulb emits tons of inferred light, and heat…and thats why you see people with 3-4k lumen torches being able to set paper on fire

led spektrum is much more narrow than a glow wire, they basicly only emit light in the color they are constructed to….so a white LED will not emit much IR…thats why white LED flashlights with IR filters dont work well…just not much other light being emitted from led….but use a glowwire bulb and IR filter and it works great

i can hold my 3000k lumen flashlight up against news paper and nothing will happen…im gonna try right now….ok a bit of smoke was all from the 3000 lumen elektrolumens fire sword…so i was wrong…i guess with a magnifying glass or something to focus the light it would be able to light something on fire….but the 1600 lumen xml i have no clue if it will or not

nothin from a p7 ssc led

and nothing from the 1000 lumen xml

the zoom lookes to be a very well made flashlight….1600 lumen however…i dont think the xml can do that within spec, unless you power it more than the specs say…

i kinda want the fandy 3kL flashlight….and i want the 5x R2 maglite head they have as well….but its 48 for one and 35 for the other…i dont have that…kind of money, but hey if someone wants to sponsor me i would be delighted to test these inexpensive modules up against the 400$ firesword and see how they stack up for the avarage folks….i dont have the test gear the scientific examination would require…but i do have a yard….some tree’s that far away…and some close ones…..

have a 6 cell maglite comming today, so will get a chance to fit the cml head i got ready for it…..yay

but i think the 5*r2 head that dealextreme has will do nicely in my 4 cell maglite…instead of that puny 114 lumen maglite original crap…should be around 10 times that at 1200 lumens

Cyg,

Have you seen the 1600 lm Zoom torch?

If the 3K torch is 2x as bright I imagine you could light a cig. with it.

I might learn the hard way about customs but I just bought a second one via eBay for $37.00 without bat. or CHG.

lipo always come at around 3.7-3.8v this is their storage voltage,….and any lipo that goes into long time storage should be charged or discharged to this level….that will make them last longer…

aparently the chemestry self destructs if store fully charged for long time…i use lipo for flashlights, Rc cars, heli, kids ride on cars that normally take a 12v battery….and with the price of todays lipo’s i dont care if i loose 10 charges on a battery because i stored it fully charged….

when fully charged it will loose current over time…but then at least it will be “more” ready when i need it

I just gtot in today the ultrafire two battery charger and 4 of the 18650 batteries for my Ultrafire 502 flashlight.

It took me maybe ten days to get the charger and the batteries.

I wil probably buy more of these lights, I see yu can get a deal if you buy thre or more and save 12 bucks, the one I got is in the vice getting a weaver base JB welded to it for the AAS410.

The batteries came at 3.88, but the red light is on the charger so I assume they are still charging.

Roachcreek
