FX Smooth Twist barrel on a Condor
I ordered a .25 FX-ST blank and turned it down to fit my Condor (In a Talon frame in the pic but headed for my Condor soon) I didnt know what to expect from a barrel with no rifling, but after a few dozen shoots I think the only thing holding this barrel back is my shooting skills.
The targets were shot from 40yards. One with Jerrys 7rings and one with Kings. 10 shots each. The group with the Kings could be tightend up a lot if I turned the power down from the slug setup. (I have a elongated bushing in place of the PW) Dont even ask what happened with the two twelve oclock shots on the slug target 😳

RC got those slugs second hand and it appeared that at least some of them had not been handled well by the first owner or had suffered in the second shipment. I would expect slugs direct from us, undamaged would shoot even better.
I think you have the slugs sized to .251, is that right?
Yes they are the .251, I got them from RC. His old LW .25 barrel that he had problems with didnt shoot them well.
Jerry I’ll be getting a fresh batch from you when I run thru these. They pack quite a punch even at long ranges.
Looking down this FX barrel it “Chhur is Chhiny” Looks like a Cascading funnel with a twist at the end. Im thinking the lack of rifling should also mean a lack of lead residue.
I don’t know for sure but that is the consensus so far.
Rifling adds surface area so a smooth barrel would be less friction.
I see, so the smooth twists should give you more speed compared to the LW’s….
If you consider the very end that is rifled choked… 😕
80, the barrels have the very end twisted in a manner so the outside of the barrel gets rifled and it also changes the inside at the same time. So just the end has rifles which are pretty smooth.
Kind of like a minor choke that is rifled.
Instead of just putting small tick marks along the skirt and head the whole circumference of the pellet drags along the smooth part of the barrel and spin is imparted just at the last few inches that has smooth rifling.
Quasi rifled choke. 😕
Are those barrels choked? I would like to see how it does with 6 rings.
That’s two reports of the slugs doing well from an ST barrel. Given the recent reports about LW barrels with less than perfect bores, it’s good to see another option coming to market.
I think you have the slugs sized to .251, is that right?
The ST absolutely loves the slugs. Im hitting cans at 80+ yards almost every time. Last mildot,but still. The 70 grain 7rings is all I have right now. Mid to low 800s fps , but when I do some porting on the valve It should sqeeze a little more fps out.
Shoots the kings well also (but what doesnt 🙄 ) However the barrel doesnt like EJs at all. go figure.

Tag, you got any more time on that barrel yet? I’m interested to hear more about how those slugs are doing through it.
Yeah, i would also say turn those JSB speeds down a bit.
Try 880-940 with them. Starting at 880 then working your way upwards.

RC told me the history on them and let me try some beforehand, and they shot pretty well even in my 18”barrel.
Im also thinking the next ones will be even better 😀
