I take this opportunity to ask another .22 caliber ‘addict’, Ted in Madison, would he please tell us why he prefers it to the .25 for long range field use in windy conditions.
Please answer, Ted. I’ve asked you the same question re my last post on the Yellow, where you complemented me on my accuracy in windy conditions.
Despite Ed’s opinion on the subject I still can’t choose between a .22 Matador Standard and a .25 Matador long for best 100 m accuracy in the medium to strong breeze by the sea ❓ ❓ ❓

I don’t know that I prefer the .22 over the .25. I’ve never shot a .25 Matador. Based on ballistic coefficients (and common sense), the heavier pellet should stand up better to the wind. I can’t speak for Ed, but I think his comment was more general re: the accuracy of the two calibers. The .22 is his flagship, and he has much more time invested in the design. The .25 is a newer design – so, it is possible that Ed does not have the same amount of confidence in the “new” gun as he does his .22.
That is all my speculation, of course.
I think Ed’s blatant honesty sometimes causes us to scratch our heads. 😀
I prefer .22 because I do not want a long matador – I like the standard size. I also prefer the .22 for the greater shot count. The balance of power and efficiency (shot count) works best for me in .22 cal.
If I had to smack raccoons all year long, I would get the .25. 🙂

That’s what Ed told me when I asked him which caliber he preferes in windy conditions. After seeing the videos I’m not so sure about it any more. I noticed some light wind in only one of the videos but for obvious reasons most of them were made in near perfect weather conditions.
I do my shooting by the sea where it is almost never calm, but even away from the coast the air is rarely still. So I wish I could see more videos done in the usual everyday windy conditions.

I am still amazed as to how the .25 out done the .22 at long range & looking forward to more tests once you get your Ed’s.

My GF is of Arab origin too (born in Yemen, family lives in Dubai). May be I should bring her, – and then we could drop them both of in one of those down town malls equppied with some dollars from Hoot and Tedd. That normally does the trick…… 😉

i am not too sure about the belly dancers at the farm, my GF would shoot me (she’s Arab, they don’t argue just shoot & discuss later)
I also have a brand new Bauer compressor, so no worry about running out of Air (finally).
May will be a good time but Jan-March is even better.

Trygve, why wont they allow you in ? I built my own range at the farm it has about 200 yards range which is only 100km away from Dubai, so if you do visit, we can go shooting 🙂
ofcourse i advise to visit in Winter as summer is way too hot to go out, but never the less its an indoor range 🙂

Ed, I know that you don’t like the 25 caliber. If you happen to have a R3 25 caliber long laying around that you are hesitant to sell because you don’t think that it is as accurate as the R3 22 long, I am willing to take it off of your hands.

Basically an average of 2 shots per kill for .25 and 3.09 for the .22 for balloons.
For beer Cans its 4 shots per kill for .25 while a good 9 shots per kill for the .22
