Top hat or power wheel first?
I went out and shot for groups this morning with my 25 Condor. Perfect weather, 64 degrees and no wind. (See pic posted under General Chat “Target Shooting, What can you do?”) I am well pleased with the 5 shot group I got with the Benji Domes. 🙂 However, you will note the JSB’s vertical hits. I’m sure this is as a result of a higher FPS using a lighter pellet. (Chairgun indicates they were traveling at about 1030FPS compared to the crony tests of the Benjamin at 985) 😯
I realize that I need to get the FPS down to around 900 (?) for the JSB’s (probably not a bad idea for the Benjamin’s too) to improve the groups. I know a lot of TAG members swear by JSB’s and I’d like to have optional accurate pellets. 💡
In my never ending quest (It’s my OCD actually 😆 😆 ) to know what settings to use with a particular pellet, what is the recommended sequence to adjust the FPS either way, up or down, and maintain a flat shot string?

Moneyshot – Good idea. I thought I had some Kodiak 31.02 match left over from my MRod days. Couldn’t find them. Ordered some today and will be lobbing some by Saturday. Results to follow.
I have shot both weights of the EunJin pellets. Not as good a grouping, but didn’t have the gun crony’d for those pellets.
What about this thought ❓ 💡
Is it an exercise in futility taking a selection of pellets and getting them to crony at say, 900 FPS, then, shoot for groups and select a go-to pellet selection from the results ❓
Or should I pick a pellet based on popularity, figure out the combo of pressure and settings ❓
One thing is for sure, the trigger is getting a work out ❗

yea, dem preds never did too well for me past 25 yds. or so… good bird and squirrel pellets, though, for price, however, crow mags do the same for me, good short range killers…
Not in .25cal.
Today for the heck of it I tried a few pellets..
Pred Polymag 26gr,Benji 27.8,Eunjin 35.8 and Baracuda 31gr
Once again the Benji’s come out on top.
Lots of people rant and rave about the Pred polys, they don’t do anything for me in the .25 cal, maybe they are all shooting .22 or .177.
I did like them back was I was shooting springers in .177 cal, they were the cats meow.
I’m shooting the Benji’s at an average of 948fps, and my groups arn’t any better than yours. So if you find that 900fps shoots better for you..well I’ll change as well
Mrnewbie – Thanks for the kind words. 🙂 When I owned a .25 Mrod, the JSB and Benjamin pellets were THE pellet. Interesting test results this morning, though. (I shoot every morning, I can’t help myself ❗ 😮 ) I lowered the power wheel to zero with the same start pressure of 2400. I didn’t have time to crony this combo, but I will. Again, trying different things. Still good groups with the Benji pellets with a mil-dot drop, no big deal. Then I shot the JSB’s. Instead of the vertical variance, I got a horizontal 😮 Looked like I was holding the rifle sideways ❗ Back to more testing with the JSB’s. Might as well use ‘em ‘cause I got ‘em ❗

have you tried kodiaks yet? may slow it down enough and ive yet to shoot a rifle that didnt like them(well, very few…)
There are many ways to skin that cat!
I would go with lowering the power wheel, then crony again.
Another option…change tank air fill pressure, then crony again
Tophat then crony again.
Or some combination off all the above..more crony
Crony again is always in there.
I have the TalonSS with a .25 barrel and high flow from TT.
When I bought the barrel, Anthony recommended the Benji pellets for his barrel. He’s the tunner, he aught to know.
I will say my gun shoots JSB’s and Benji’s about the same, I prefer the Benji’s I figure it bucks the wind just a bit better.
You shot a dime size group at 50, looks good right now.

moneyshot – will do.. Got a fresh shipment of lead arriving tomorrow afternoon, but will probably be Monday afternoon before I get to pull the trigger. My schedule looks like a NYC subway schedule right now.
Really looking forward to doing more testing, and the testing is paying off.
There is a tree 83 yards behind the house with a couple of dead branches at the top were starlings like to perch of a morning. Well, two won’t be coming to the tree anymore. Benjamin’s with a two and half mil-dot hold over is the ticket.
Crows have landed there last couple of mornings but haven’t had the chance to bring the Condor to bear. Will be looking for them early Friday morning when they arrive.
