Q:

My Prod

I was asked about my Prod’s shot string in another thread. Here it is. This is with factory settings. This gun is a replacement for the first that was terribly innaccurate. The crosman rep told me that she would take my replacement to the technicians and have it looked at before they shipped it to me. This what I got: (It shoots very straight also.)

I find this acceptable for plinking and rat/ground squirrel hunting at close ranges.

Yeah at $250 I would jump on one! I just want a decent pcp pistol. I have been eying the brocock’s (no homo 😆 ).

All that being said, I keep returning to it. I like the concept of a truly compact, lightweight rat killer. The challenge it to make it a one shot stopper…no crawl aways. The best answer for that is a .25 Crow Magnum, or Preadator. Hmmm. I may make a transfer port sleeve for mine like I have made for others and give it a go. Uncle Hoot’s recommendation of a heavier hammer spring is also part of the plan. I may turn a heavier brass hammer in an attempt to make this platform do what I need it to do. We’ll see.

In the meantime, I have returned to my .25 Marauder. I really like this air rifle. It anchors whatever I shoot with it. This is one that crosman got right. 😉

For what the Prod is, and the likelyhood of having problems with it out of the box that require its return to the factory, it’s way overpriced. It will be interesting to see how well they sell and if the price drops dramaticly. Stay tuned sports fans.

Thanks for the honest report Steve!

“How do I love thee, let me count the ways…” Elizabeth Browning wasn’t referring to her Prod.

I didn’t buy mine to use as a pistol. I always had the idea of using it as a carbine.

I like my Prod, but I also recognize its limitations. They way mine is set up, it is best for plinking cans. I shoot rats with it. Some of them drop dead, but others crawl away. That’s never good. It would require more power, which it is capable of, but that destroys the shot count. Therefore you need to tether, or get a longer reservior. I use mine as a carbine. The crosman skeleton stock doesn’t provide any support for a cheek weld. But it is doable. Again there are after market stocks that will fix this shortcomming.

The Prod is LOUD out of the box. There are several solutions, but guys aren’t happy with them. They just live with better noise reduction. Mine sounded the same without the shroud as it does with the factory shroud. One really needs a LDC.

I think that a guy would be better off building one to his own specifications as dictated by his intended use just as guys build up the 22xx platform to meet their needs. Either way it is pricey and I don’t think you get $400 worth of gun when you open the box. Then there is the cosman two step dance if you get a gun that groups like a shotgun. My first Prod made 1 1/2″ groups at just 21 feet! That’s terrible and that gun should have never left the factory. That demonstrates crosman’s contempt for us shooters. That’s not cool at all. Many of us are fed up with the “just-send-it-back-to-us-and-we’ll-make-it-good-bullshit”! For $400, they can get right the first time!

I think this gun is buyer beware. The varmintair hunting blog makes this gun look like a great hunter. His is a great Prod. However, Tim at Mac1 set it up. Therefore, the one you get isn’t going to perform like what you see in the videos.

I don’t recommend this gun. Buyer beware. It’s $400 for the gun plus the upgrades which can add hundreds more.

The Talon SS, the AA S410/510 carbine are larger, but they are much better airguns. The Talon Pistol is probably a superior pistol…but it too is loud.

Nice! How you like the Prod? I’ve been wanting a air pistol but not sure what to get.

Yes, Steve, it does look very good.

Now you need to see how accurate it is at 20, 25, and 30 yards.

And what velocities give you the same point of impact at those ranges.

I’m going to do the same with my P-rod when I can make it out to the range.

Great string!!!! 2700-1700 psi is a very sweet range to operate and fill from a 3100psi tank.

Looks good! After me saying I was going to send you my shot string, I cant find the paper… 😳 Still looking for it though. I know I put it away so I wouldnt lose it…bah
