Q:

Condor shot strings

Well the new baby is home, Airgunsoftulsa treated me like royalty with this purchase( I’ll write that experience up in the general section later on) Took her out to (be4meliz) pad out on the end of the road for an afternoon of hanging out and shooting a whole bunch rifles. So my hope was for dailing in this sweetie and seeing what the fuss is all about. Its gonna be a forest hunter, not a bench shooter at all. Tested Kings, kodiaks, benji domes, silver bears and in a category by itself, Jerry’s 6 rings…Considering that the wind swirled in different directions between the windsocks the kings slightly #1, kodiak and benji #2 and the silver bears looked like a target at the turkey shoot or sometimes out here is a kielbasa shoot. The 62gr 6ring of course shot low, but also a little off to the left, but grouped nice…I probably have the weakest set condor on the forum.

Between 50 and 56 fpe…and cranked up with a 6 ring over 90…EXACTLY what i was looking for….no fiddling, no tweeking, no farting around, no more countless hours trying to figure out what rifle will end up being my number one 6 days a week hunter….Freekin finally…no more 15 different tins of pellets, considering valve jobs and all other sorts of mods and trinkets….and then pumping that Hill pump to 3250psi shooting at different yardages, paper paper spinner spinner, pump pump…I’m done… I can whip out 2600psi with one hand…and then get 25 shots, thats a little meat on the jerky rack!!!! With my 62# yellow birch stickbow for the Boys with black fur and claws and the condor for everything else I’m sitin real nice…let it snow!!!

Just a note a bit off the post, but Dave from Tulsa OK top of my list also, we did some buying and selling together and talked on the phone! I would suggest anyone wanting some good deals and great service get in touch with him 😆 airgunsoftulsa

This does read as if it was a good day you guys had alright LOL…

Now one thing I want to inject into your gray matter for the next time out and more importantly, with Jerry’s slugs, you mentioned they were low and left!!!

You will soon enough figure out that as the pressure gets lower in the tank, POI moves left first and then ever so slowly lower and lower…
Man, you get out there next time you jump on your pump with both them paws of yours and no more of this one handed pumping for the six ring slugs!!! LOL

You need all the air pressure you can pop the valve open with each hammer blow… Not sure what that is with your rifle, but would be easy enough to find out if you don’t already…

Then, lets read from you how the six rings do LOL??? Also might add, don’t even adjust the scope for this, just shoot for grouping and see just what they do when they hit something at the other end LOL…

From reading the other post the other guy there made, no freakin’ barrel shroud, they are loud suckers arn’t they LOL… You will want to shroud that muther before hunting time… Just how much barrel do you have past the end of the frame anyway??? Didn’t see mentioned what barrel length you have there…

Something else I want to ask, your tophat setting of .069″, I am guessing that is how it came??? This from a person who knows how to setup these rifles, or is this how it came from AF???

Dang with what I have seen from mine, which nothing about mine is stock and has been this way for many years, even the frame on mine is far from stock any longer LOL… Anyway, my tophat setting at anything over .030″ is just wasting air on mine… Might want to check that on yours as well, may not… Sounded like you have had all the messing with things you wanted, not sure… Me I like to mess with things and if I did, the AF product would be the last rifle I would look at with all the fun I have had with my Condor…

Don’t get me wrong, I would sell mine, but it would not be cheap!!! I hate lots of things about these rifles and one is the trigger setup. I don’t have one single OEM part in my trigger, I cut all mine from 400 series stainless knife blade blanks, right after I had a look see at what I had for parts in my trigger assembly LOL… I had one broken part at that point and all three main pieces had major rust all over the side area of each component… This was within the first month I had the rifle.

I had love hate and hell with mine from the first day it came in, the only thing that made me keep her was I just like to build things by hand anyway, if for no other reason to see if I can and make a better part to boot LOL… I am taking real blacksmith sort of hands on building also…
There is no lathe, or end mill around here, but I got all sorts of hand tools and lots of practice doing just this sort of things, making something work from something that was mass manufactured and doesn’t work LOL…

This latter statement is the American way anymore in the bigger manufacturing business, least it seems that way to me, the ones that are still here in America LOL…

You need to make sure you get this hammer area all polished and then graphite the heck out of it also. This will make the rifle more consistant… That and make sure you keep the breech slide area on the necked down part of the barrel lubed with the divers silicone grease… You start getting those hammer falls that seems like a pooch shot and the tank is still charged good, that is where I have always found mine…

I would also go all over each set screw on the barrel bushings in the frame as well as the set screws on the top hat to make sure they are snug and stay that way… The darn top hat was the worst, I red loctite mine to the stem, this way not to get the set screw dimple on the inside of the stem from trying to keep the darn thing tight and failing miserably the whole time and making a restriction on the inside of the stem… That really hurts your feelers LOL…

I hope your already aware of all this stuff to watch for and setup, and if so, sorry for all the flash backs of days gone bye 🙂

Good stuff!

Sounds like a great day out shooting!

yea, awesome guy to deal with, gave me a bottle of thin silicone oil and an awesome grease for RC cars, its good stuff, man. ihmo way better than divers grease. we’ll be doing actual business soon enough… 😎

SWEEEET!
Stick – glad your happy with the rifle. With all the crony shooting and group testing I’ve been doing lately, (over 1300 pellets in a week ), I think .069″ on the top hat is the “number” to start with for the .25 Condor.

Adjust the power wheel and the pressure for the weight of pellet your going to lob at the target goin’ about 900 fps and you have a killer set up. :4:

Keep me up to speed on what’s workin’ for ya.

Dave
