Q:

Talon P SS by shortening the barrel ?

Since keeping the Talon P short is key and after all it is a pistol, wonder what it would take to cut the barrel down to say 10 inches or 9 so as to shroud the end like the SS (or very short shroud) yet keep at least say 40+ FPE ?

I can always slip in a heavier hammer to bring it back up say from 69 gram stock hammer to 85 gram Tony Hammer which calculates to the same FPE for a 12 inch vs 9 inch barrel in FPE.

Quick calculations show going from a 12 to 10 inch barrel will reduce FPE by 11 %, and going to 9 inch will reduce by 16 %. FPS would go down 5.5 % and 9 %.

You can cut your barrel for sure, but this will affect muzzle velocity, and probably, if you would like to keep FPS you will have to increase air consumption.
This leads to decreased shot amount. According to what I have on my TalonP atm, its about 10-11 shots at full-power preset. Cutting barrel will decrease it to 6-7, and as for me, I don’t see any profit.

Regards.

He does awesome work and a great guy to deal with. I have also ordered from Jim Gaska with good results.

Hoot is always serious…..

Thanks Talon, Hoot is very bright and he obviously knows his s_ _ t but its difficult to tell when he’s serious. Still need a good shroud, the one I own could be better.

Hoot, I have a Talon P that’s in desperate need of a shroud. You mentioned “GTBJ” 😯 not sure what that stands for. Can you enlightened me? And please, don’t hurt me 😆 😆 😆

Get The Blu Jay. He is a member of this mad house.

I believe the Talon P could be reduced in size. It’s a loud rascal and will definitely need a high end shroud. GTBJ made mine, and reduced my .25 Talon with a 12″‘ barrel to dead silent.

Jim Gaska can make you a barrel of any size you want, and it will be first class machining.

The Talon P is technically not a pistol…as much as a very short carbine.

It is however, a very power .25 caliber for it’s size. There are many mods available for it.

Shot count will be limited, unless you adapt a regular Talon bottle on it with an adapter.

Just my thoughts.

The minimum length of the barrel would depend on the collar attachment points, the aluminum bushings.

Unless of course you want to redrill and thread the frame and remount the bushings closer to the breech. Of course you will want to cut off the breech end and not the muzzle end to keep the choke, the exception being if you want to remove the choke and see what happens…

I guess if you has a 1″ barrel it’s the tank that will not get any smaller… The damned thing still wouldn’t be a pistol even then… 😆

I would actually go the other way, get an 18″ barrel and cut it so it just sticks out of the end of the frame, say to like 16″ or 14″. A longer barrel will give you more power and more accuracy for the same quantity of air.. 😉

I was thinking about picking one up. Has anyone tried a frame extender or anything?

does this strike anyone as a bit impractical? 😕

Cool now I understand what you mean. I’ll test and will let you know.

Great numbers. 13/0 is 13 on the slider indicator and 0 on the micro adjusting wheel itself. It is the maximum setting. 6/8 is the middle and 0/0 the minimum.

You were getting 51 FPE at 12/5 with only 2000 PSI ? 😯

Also give me a measurement, from the end of the frame, to the 2 bushing screws that hold the barrel.

Thanks

What do you mean by 13/0? I’ll try to shoot at that setting and will let you know, when I can get some time off from my work.

I shot some EJ 43.2 with Power wheel at 5 and the other adjustment at max 12 setting and got 730 FPS at 2000 PSI for 51.1 FT/LB.
