Aluminun Breech
With all the talk of brass and aluminum breeches, I started making one that I think will work with no problems. Had enough time to turn the OD, drill the hole, ream it and cut the step like the stock one. If I get home early enough I will stick my o ring tool in a holder and cut the o ring grove.

What is your price for a Aluminum breech, with Hammer Slap mod and dual holes for a Subssonics bolt handle ?
i bought one of these from doug the other day, and if you are in the market for a metallic breech(and if hes making more), i HIGHLY recommend one. expertly and carefully crafted, anodizing is top notch, my only quip is i now need to find a bolt handle worthy of attaching to it. 😎 if he agrees to make you one, have the od measurement of your barrel breech area accurately specified, as he seems to be geared toward perfection on these, and he has found wide variations in size depending on who turned your barrel. this breech has my seal of approval…
Picked them up today and put one on the .25 and the side cocker one on the .22. Came out good. I might tighten up the hole .002″ on the next ones. Anybody interested in aluminun breech?
Sent 5 to get hard anodized today to see how the tolerances come out. Get them Friday morning. Started on a couple barrel guided hammers today. This one will be 105 gr as requested. Wasted 3 hours trying to find the right comdo to cut the oil filled nylon. Finally got it down and have one close. Letting it dry and will finish the hole and be done. I orderd a couple of bits to do the hole and if they work I will make more of these. If they don’t I will only make the ones I promissed. Not cost effective for me.

Stock breech weighs 28 gr and aluminum is 54 gr. I could neck it down in the middle and get it a lot closer to stock weight.

Here’s what I have so far. Turns out my .25 barrel is .004″ smaller than my stock AF .22. My bad for not checking it, but the side cocker I can measure without taking the barrel out. This could be a problem if the all the .25 barrels are not consistant out there. Anybody have measurment of there barrel? My .25 is .304″ and the .22 from AF measures .308″. I made these 2 breeches for the .308″ barrel so the hole is .313″ and after hard anodizing it will be .311″.
Materials have different properties when talking about compression vs. expansion. A good example is concrete – great in compression – terrible in expansion.
If you want to experiment, water when froze exerts a pressure of 2000 psi. Fill an old Delrin breech with water and freeze. I’m not sure the max pressure that the breech experiences, but I guess it does not achieve 3000 psi in the approximate .0015 seconds that the valve is open.
Trying to unweight a Delrin breech of 30 grams is not going to gain much as opposed to an Aluminum breech of 60 grams or Brass breech of 180 grams.
THis Tapered Hourglass thing that Parisd and Kada82s have going on their breeches. Anyone think it would be of any benefit on a stock delrin breech to turn it down some in the middle or would it split when shot?
oh and by the way it did increase power compared to the derlin breech and thats with standard seals fitted. so when i can get some 90’s in it should rise alittle more. so i can turn my tophat down a little more and have less stress on the stem and valve.
heres the ali breech i had fitted. ive gone back to the standard breech until i can sort out the seal issues
