Chopping barrels-lost accuracy?
Hi all, a new guy here.
I was wondering wether the stock AF barrels are choked? As in, were I to cut a stock barrel shorter, would I see detrimental effects on accuracy? The quality of the crown notwithstanding.

I did cut 1.5″ from my 24″ .25 caliber barrel, and accuracy actually improved. Ive wondered why from time to time, but gotten over it. 😎
Velocity is pretty much the same as before, however tuning these rifles to whatever velocity you want isn’t particularly hard to do.
A good pellet will shoot without the need of a choke. Such is the case with JSB and Benjiman pellets in my case.
However it must be said that you cannot make a bad pellet shoot better by removing the choke. If the pellet is crap, the results will still be crap.
Crow Magnums still shoot like shit, so that makes my point I think.
However 😉 the EunJins shoot about half the size groups they did before, so I did see improvement there. EJs were just a little too big for the choke in my case.
many of us are lathe-deficient, such as myself…however, i guess i wouldnt try doing it by hand with a precision barrel. i have, however, chopped and crowned a few cheaper barrels by hand, with frankly stunning results…
Cut the barrel on the breech side and recut the step.
stock barrels are choked, and chopping the choke can change the shooting characteristics in a few ways, or may not. only thing im fairly certain of is that sorting may likely become more of a necessity with many pellets…but your mileage may vary. i would hesitate to lop it unless you feel you absolutely must…

The whole idea behind all this is to get a short .25 carbine with a hi-flo valve. I’m aware that custom models like this are available, but I’m trying to keep the budget under control for now. Time for special mods later. A slippery slope, I know.
I’m debating wether it would be worth purchasing a Condor and cutting the barrel to make a compact gun, or to buy the Condor and a 12″ accessory barrel to go with it and achieve the same result. Naturally, when you have two barrels, you HAVE two barrels..
Suppressing the gun would not be a problem, since silencers are legal and largely unregulated here.
