A few pics of the beauty of a surefire 6 ring slug…
Jerry was kind enough to resize some .253’s I had laying around from when I had a Korean carbine…so I went outside to my 35 yard target. I shot a few 5 shot groups with them and as expected out of my AAA condor they were “minute of coyote”!
The expansion going through that 2×4 and into the concrete back stop is surely a work of art. Just look at that slug!!!! I don’t think any other pellet can retain such melodic balance! I plan to take a trip to the range to see how they do at longer range but alas I think they do what they were intended for! I did not have my chrony out but I estimate them at around 85 to 95 fpe. FPE is not the be all end all of power…the nine ring may give you a lower fpe, but will out kill the 6 ring any day…Velocity means almost nothing, except to get the slug to the target accurately.
Gonzo, Yeah, I suppose a couple turns on the preload may give me a little more air…I will do it when I break out the chrony to see what the gain is. Soon I wan’t to decide on which cast slug is best for my rifle as well. I have a feeling it will be the six rings… can’t wait to do some more testing. Thanks for the encouragement. God bless you!
I also had my Condor tuned by Tony. He said that at pw 9 it would be more consistant and get more shots, but I cranked it up all the way to see if there would be a difference. With smaller lighter pellets I could see it being ok on 8 or 9. But with these heavier slugs you need to use all the air you can to push them out with power. It’s worked great for my rifle and I want to try and see how they would do on larger game like yote, javelina, turkey, etc. I’ve seen a coyote killed at 85 yards witha AAA Condor using Kodiak extra heavies. So I know if one of the bad boys hits and expands on a coyote in the chest. It may run for maybe 20 or 30 yards before it piles up, if not right on the spot. Head shot for sure instant kill. BTW I read your story and keep up the faith brother.
This is a tuned AAA from Tony. This particular one has the PW set on 8. I could probably try to squeeze more fpe out of it but it gives me the best accuracy with the Kings (which I shoot primarily) and best shot count on the setting it is from “Tony’s Factory”. The most I got out of the 7 rings was 104fpe so that is why I guestimated the 85 to 95 from the slightly lighter 6 rings. I could be off though. I am going to chrony them soon to see what speed they are moving. I also am going to do longer range testing with them….
I shot mine at 25 yards through a 2×4 of some real hard wood. Not sure what kind though, but it went through like butter and mushroomed completely flat chipping my concrete fence. wanted to shoot more but it was in my yard and the blast was loud! dont have a shroud yet. but these slugs are my choice for yote any day. mine were doing 115 to 120 fpe so im sure you were in that range. Where was your power wheel set at?
Thanks Tony, that AAA you built me has not lost a bit of accuracy yet. I have never cleaned the barrel. It still puts the Kings in the same hole at 25 yards all day long. I won’t clean the barrel until it starts to lose accuracy. Couldn’t say how many pellets through it know, but it sure is allot 😈

That is the reason why I am trying out the six rings in my rig. I could not get the seven rings moving fast enough (ideally speaking of course). So I did not even attempt the 9 rings. The idea is that the faster they are moving the more stable they will be. Ideally I would like to see the seven or six rings for that matter moving from between 850 to 950 fps.
I did manage a decent group from the 7 rings awhile back at 100 yards. If memory serves me correctly I believe it was 3″ or 2.75″ (which is not too shabby at such distance). I suppose I am still striving for that “clover leaf” group! Jerry proved the long range potential of the surefires out of his custom Barnes Rifle…moving at higher velocities.
