Yep, Tom Kaye is the best.

Roachcreek

You guys who panic about your shoebox need to relax a wee bit. I know it sucks when something is acting up.

But Tom Kaye is one of the good ones and really a legend in the paintball world. He has invented stuff that is way over most peoples head.

If you have a problem just contact Tom to get the quickest solution.

Anyone that is having problems with their ShoeBox should just email me at info@shoeboxcompressor.com and I almost always respond within a day.

RJ from your description its hard to tell what’s going on. We make that part to come off first. Otherwise you bend your compressor into a metal sculpture if something goes wrong.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and support!!

….or all of them. 😉

Rob,

I put my first rebuild off to the point that it wold not pump at all, I was really apprehensive about digging into that red contraption.

After the first rebuild, which took maybe a 1/2 hour, I shrugged my shoulders and smiled, it was so easy. After that fijrst rebuild the fear of the unknown was gone and it was easier.

Yes, sir… was lots of ‘gray’ grease on the first rebuild, which tells me that the parts were mating up and polishing out.

The reseal was quick and easy, and now it’s running like a champ. I know I over lubed… ID-ten-tango error on my part!

Rob,

They always need rebuilding more often when new, because your actually polishing those rods at the cost of Orings. And the nature of the beast is that it needs to have o rings replaced now and then.

I think what happened to my first one was the cylinders filled up with grease to the point that it could not bleed it out and then bent the arm when the pistons could not go full cycle.

But the one it was replaced with has been a jewel, a grossly over worked jewel but a jewel none the less.

I lube often, every two hours, but that mop I use puts so little on the rods it just puts it at the right place at the right amount. That and the fans on the cylinders and the motor, they seem to be one of the best things I have done for the Shoebox, my cylinders just never get hot anymore.

Without the Shoebox, I could never do the level of shooting I do with the Condor and would not even consider owning a Ranger 45. Not to mention the fact I live 40 miles round trip from a dive shop.

If I would do the level of shooting I do now using the Shoebox with the scuba tanks or even scba tanks if I had a place to fill them, the cost in time to do the round trip to get them filled and the cost of gas, would have been much higher than the cost of even a conventional 4500 PSI compressor.

I’ve had a few problems with my Shoebox…

Mine needed a reseal after just a few fills…. then after a few fills, needed it again… not a full reseal, but just an o-ring replacement.

…. that’s when I found out I was WAY over-lubing… just a dab every 3 hours and I’ve now had about a dozen top offs on my 4500 psi tank with zero issues so far!

I have had two Shoeboxes, the first lasted only a couple months, it seized up and bent the arm double. I broke it down to see what happened and the only thing I could find was that it had a lot of lube in the cylinders.

I sent it back to Tom because he wanted to see what happened, he sent me a new one and Ihave had zero trouble with it, and I run it a lot, weeks and weeks of 4 to 6 hours a day at times, zero problems and very few replacing of the ‘O” Rings since I went to using the fans.

Tom could not find what caused it to seize but I suspect it was too much lube in the cylinders. I now lube with a 20 gauge shotgun mop bent double and I put the white grease on the mop and then wipe it on the rods and race way.

There is only one place to find out what is wrong with your SHoebox RJ and it is not here!

Get in contact with Tom Kaye, he is the expert and he will see you thru this trouble.

As far as people having a lot of trouble with the Shoeboxes and using that for a reason to not one, two things come to mind:

First, bullshit and the second, the potential customers waiting in line will apreciate your decision not to buy one.

It is the single most important air gun related purchase I have made in my life.

Well you know RJ I hate to say this, but you are being silly, Its a little hard to even figure out whats wrong from your description

How about more like part 53 keeps falling off and parts 45 go flying.

If thats all it is, get a couple of new press on washers(whatever they are called) from your local hardware store for 50 cents. Make sure the brass bushings are not to worn and fit well, if they are bad, get new ones from TK.

thanks for the support REV and also sorry if i sounded like a dick im just frusterated with this thing also these things r great even with the little mishaps ive had this thing has seen a lot of abuse the past 2 weeks sense i got my 308 haley in ive been running it 6 hours a day on the weekdays and 8 hours a day on the weekend and yes i do lube it like im suppose to and i also have fans blowing on the cylinders to keep it all cool

thanks for all the no help guys

All I can say RJ is that evidently none of us know anything about it.

Good thing about the TAG from what I have seen, if you don’t really know much about a subject, the members (for the most part…) don’t claim to be experts. Unlike on the Yellow Forum where several people will share their advice and be wrong…

I’d contact the maker, either directly or via the forum with a question.
The maker of these things seems to be very supportive of his customers as he knows he lives or dies by the feedback on them.
I am sure there is a fix for this.

Good luck, let us know how it works out.
Maybe post some pictures of the issue and one of our talented members may have an idea or two.

I always wanted one of those little compressors, but after reading about all the hassles people have with them, I will have to pass. It’s not like I have a big bore that sucks the air. I get 25 fills from my 66cf/45k so for the $5 the dive shop down the street charges me, I will continue to take the drive.

thanks for all the no help guys

How kind of you to rid him of his problem Hoot. 😆
You are indeed quite the generous soul you claim to be….. 😆 😆 😆
