Q:

12 Ga shot gun shells at 100 yards

This is a crappy video. By the time I got it converted and uploaded to Photobucket, the resolution went to hell. It was getting late, the day was overcast and my Sony DCR-SR68 had trouble focusing at 60X.

The shells were at 100 yards and I was using my Edgun Matador R2.5 Long Version 25 cal with a BSA barrel. The gun was shooting a little high and a little to the right. Once I got it figured out, it was smacking em pretty good.

I wish that I would have set up 10 more and gave it another try.

But I’m looking for another one.. If I find one with at least the same quality of lenses, a slightly bigger magnification but the same thin crosshair.. that’s the new one! 🙂

Wow!Thats some great shooting.Without the bottom shots looks to be
about .5″ctc :4: What kind of scope are you using?
thanks,mark

OG, as promised my group at 100m…

I was testing with all sorts of holding positions, with or without bipod, sandbag, …

This was the best group. It counts +-17 or 18 shots. I was amazed. (the 2 or 3 shots under the target are also part of the group, the right one isn’t).
This is done by unsorted, unweighted pellets. Just right out a can of 500 JSB’s Exact 16 grains of 5 months old.

This was only 1 group, the others where more in the direction of 1″.

I am sorry for the slow reply. I have been busy counting 7800 O rings!

Mark, I got my R2.5 25 cal 7-27-2010. I shot around 4200 shots thru the stock barrel. IIRC, I averaged around 1.5” 5 shot 100 yard groups with it. I order 12, 350 count tin JSBs per order and I had to order more when I ordered a larger OD LW barrel to mount on the gun. I thought that I might be getting barrel whip/flex with the stock barrel.

When I change anything on my Edguns, I don’t do anything that I can’t undo. If my changes aren’t an improvement, I want to be able to go back.

I had to have Jim Gaska make me new barrel mounts and I had a new front breech piece made locally. The front breech piece was longer and allowed the LW barrel to slide into it and be secured by 3 set screws. The LW barrel had a groove on its side for an O ring. I guess that I shot the next pellet order thru it as I told my daughters that I wanted JSB pellets for Christmas. The larger OD wasn’t an improvement.

I got the BSA barrel in Feb and spent all year messing with it. I had to have another front breech piece made and Jim had to make me some new barrel mounts. I ended up being very happy with the BSA barrel. The average 100 yard group size dropped to around 1.25” but, it didn’t produce the fliers that the LW barrels did. 1.25” 100 yard groups aren’t any thing to brag about but, the thing that impressed me about that setup was that I could consistently hit a ground squirrels ¾” head shot kill zone out to 115-125 yards.

I was very happy with that setup.

I finally got my R3 25 long in, I reshaped and polished the in lead and polished the crown and the thing shot as well as the tuned R2.5 did.

I have since sold the R2.5. Kinda worried about it actually. I gave the buyer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and if he isn’t happy with it, I will get it back.

I think that Ed has come up with a big improvement with the new LW barrel and the R3’s barrel mounting setup. I am very happy with the gun but, I have to try the new BSA barrel on it. I like to tinker.

Tominct, I think that the new LW R3 barrels or the R3’s barrel mount setup have my R3 shooting as well as my tricked out R2.5 was. I don’t know if the BSA barrel will show any improvement but, I will have to see.

That guns shoots! No powder burner I have shoots that well – or maybe its me that doesnt shoot that well. No, must be the gun. Presumably you installed the BSA barrel because it shoots better.

I read that the R3s barrels have had been improved vrs the earlier generation Edgun. Do you know if they are now comparable to BSA?

Good shootin OG,How did the original barrel shoot and how many rounds
did you put through it?You can really hear the and see the power of the
.25
Finally got my .22 shooting consistent.I`ve been shooting this 4or5 times
a week since aug. I`ve been shooting plastic tacks @50yds with pretty
good results.Kind of ironic Ed just made a comment about needing
2000 rounds through barrel.Wish I knew that 10wks ago!
later,mark

Lol….!!
First shoot this BSA also on the shells and groupings!!

Thanks, Kazzz. Yes, I want to see some really tiny 100 meter groups!

I just got a BSA 25 cal barrel to try out on the R3 this winter. Unfortunately, the barrel came with all of this stuff attached to it! It looks like it is going to take a lot more work removing the barrel than it takes on an Edgun. 😯

On Thursday I go to the shooting range..
I’ll try to make some 100m vids too of a short R2.5..

Any requests?

NICE!!!! Good shooting!!

I need a BSA barrel too 🙁
