AF Changes
I ordered 2 valve stems a couple of month ago for backup in case I over did it with one of someones I was porting. I noticed the hole has now been put closer to the delrin seat. Older ones it is on the side and new one is cut into the taper also. Then I went to put one in my valve and it just falls into the delrin. So I Called and asked if they have changed anything and they said no. So now I order some delrin seats for back up and when they show up they are not tapered anymore. Again I call and they say nothing has changed. So I order a complete valve for my last Etac-reg setup and it is full of the same parts thay shipped me. So If you buy a new stem you will have to replace the delrin piece also and it will not be tapered like before. It is .005″ smaller hole and if you push hard enough a new delrin seat will fit on a old stem. They also machined a grove half way down the threads. I guess that is to protect the fools that unscrew the valve when it is still pressurized. I’m sure its’s been done.

Bought another stem and it showed up today. It doesn’t even match the stems I bought around 3 months ago. Hole now is not part way in the taper anymore and the threads are shorter for the tophat. Hole is actually .003″ bigger which is good for flow but not for strength. I will post pics tomorrow.
They also are putting thicker Orings in the top Brass where the stem slides thru. Got to give them some credit there.

That looks like it worked out good,, better then trying to chuck up that delrin. 😆
I took a piece of stainless and machined it down to the size of the end of the stem so I could machine the taper on.
FYI, “ALT+Keypad 0176” = ° symbol. 😉
It is all about airflow. And airflow does not like 90* angles.
I know it matters. I modded a members gun to shoot 6 rings and later his gun started leaking. His gun was older and I told him it’s the seat and he ordered a seat and the brass insert. When they arrived the seal was not tapered. FPS went from 911 fps to I think somewhere around 860 fps. I have all the pieces and I will do some comparing later today know that my endless air supply is back up and running.

seems to me the primary constriction of air is in the clearance between the circumference of the seal and the valve body, hence the benefit of the slotted delrin. older seals(at least mty stock one and my tt one) have a smaller diameter, hence more air clearance.
my co2 valve does have the current oversized delrin, and im sure hpa isnt reacting well to it…
There is very little advantage in a a tapered seat IF your have enough tophat gap, and of course moving the seat open far enough. The bigger issues is the stock valve spring collapse.
TagDagger tried some tapered seats and really no better than his slotted seats, course he may have been testing with his spring and retaining nut, which would make the seat size nearly irrelevant.
But I also agree, that the parts should not have changed without a distinct part number.
Those certainly look like changes to me, scary part is customer service has no idea what is what anymore.
The changes they have been making are to get parts from manufacturers who will make them for cheaper than the previous ones… So while they may not have changed the actual drawings the parts are not the same anymore.
Are we seeing the Crosmanization of AF? 😕
