Airarcher kits discontinued
After reading about some of the issues with misfires and the saftey on the AF guns Ive decided to stop offering the Airarcher conversions.
I havent had anyone report any problems with the safety with the arrow conversions, but I had a disturbing experience myself on a new Talon conversion I did for a customer recently. This Talon (brand new out of the box) misfired everytime I disengaged the safety. I removed the trigger group and reinstalled twice with no change. Then I took the sear and striker release from another trigger group and put it in the Talon.. Now everything worked perfectly. With the saftey on and off I took the gun and hit it with my hand on all sides in all directions and could not get it to misfire. Go figure 😕

It is far safer to uncock your gun when not on target and only cock it when actually on target. One of the best features of the AF rifle is it can be cocked with almost no body motion and only a simple movement of the thumb.
Why anyone would leave their AF gun cocked and locked is beyond me. It is an accident waiting to happen.

there site also says the warranty is lost if gun is modded so they would say the safty failed due to the mods
It is Tagdagger’s concern and kudos to you TD for taking prudent, decisive action. Nobody with an ounce of self respect and/or respect for others would want his modification to blow a porjectile, of any description, through somebody else, or worse yet, a kid. It seems that AF has escaped a hefty negligence lawsuit throughout the years by sheer luck. TD has experienced the well documented, dangerously designed safety, and has come to a conclusion that AF should have arrived at long ago. Shame on AF for not correcting this design flaw.
The Remington 700’s trigger group had a similiar problem for years that has resulted many injuries and deaths. Did they ever fix that? I lost interest in the 700 and have never looked into since. (I really like those new MOdel 70’s. 😉 )
The safety on both of my birds function fine, but its still no substitute for safe gun handling. My only regret is that I didnt have the money to pick up a kit before its discontinuation 🙁

The fact that the AF safety is crap, should not be your concern.
The AF saftey is crap with or without your air archer kit.
Perhaps a simple disclaimer upon a sale would be a good idea?
all they would say is that proper safety practices should have been followed, if any injury results, the operator should have not relied on the safety…
I assume tag is pulling the plug due to the moral/ethical/legal liabilites involved….

Wouldn’t this be an even greater legal liability to AF Airguns?
How bad/prevalent is this problem?
Are safety mechanisms so difficult to prove as “bad” that AF just decided to let this one slide?
Has anyone tried engaging AF about this issue directly?
I would hate for joe the plumber to shoot himself in the foot one day and take AF out of commission in court over something totally avoidable.
well, it was a good run, i dont expect airforce to cop to their bum safeties after all this time… 👿
Airgunner, I’ll be keeping the parts. May do some custom builds with better safteys on the AFs or maybe even a different gun platform altogether..
Exactly what Ive been thinking Wok, I just ordered one of the oversized safteys for the 870s. the span on the trigger housing is very close to the same. If it works well I may offer them again as a custom build.
I wish they would just make a bar block safety and be done with it.
I can understand your concerns. Are you dumping the existing conversion parts ?

I would say the best mod to a Gunpower Stealth is to remove the safety
as this makes for a far safer gun you learn to cock and de-cock as needed. The safety can also cause poor consistency from shot to shot.
