plea for marauder information
Alright I have finally decided to buy a Marauder after much deliberation with me, myself, and my checkbook. All i am asking for is for those who own or have owned a marauder to lend me your information. I am stuck between a .22 and a .25 mostly because I will be filling with a pump. If you could post or send me your stats on them that would be great. All I am looking for is shot count, velocity, and accuracy at 40 or 50 yards. Hopefully this will shed light on my decision. Thanks in advance

seems silly .22 or .25 not much difference on paper.
I can tell you that you will not beleive the difference on squirrels!
Groundhogs the .25 would be my only choice period. Yes I sold my hand pump and bought air tanks will never look back!
I hook up a carbon fiber tank and open the valve slowly and by the time you read this sentence any gun I own is full! 😆
I had a MROD 22 and the accuracy was terrible and I’m not the only one. Your 25 should be great.
A used scuba tank might fit your budget and it will be cheaper than a pump. Once you fill from a tank you will slap ourself that you ever thought of a pump.
okay i have finally succumbed to the temptation and my .25 marauder is on its way. go big or go home. That groundhog wont stand a chance come this spring
go big……….or go home… 😆
Right guys? 😉
I have both the 22 and 25 MRods. For plinking, target shooting, and just wasting lots of pellets, the 22 is my choice. For downright slamming, anchoring, and just putting the hurt on nutters, the 25 is the outright winner.
Using the 25 and the 26 grain Predator Polymag is simply devasting to nutters. No need to aim for the head. Center mass shots work just fine.
I’ve heard others say, use the 22 for feathers and use the 25 for fur. I agree wholeheartedly.
I am quite confident that if you shot them side by side, you would take the .25 home with you. Certainly if you experienced the quick and devastating effects of the .25, domed or hollow point pellets on game…you would choose the .25. After you had used the .25 for several months, if you went back to the .22, you would immediately reach for the .25 again. Yes, it’s that good! Well, those have been my experiences. Did I mention that I really like my .25 marauder? 😉 I believe that you will so enjoy the .25 Marauder that it will motivate you to figure out how to best keep it filled with clean, dry air.

.25 for game period!
.22 target shooting for sure.
I use .25 now for everything! no more crawlers they drop!!!
I have all three maraud rifles and the P-Rod.
The rifles are not pellet picky, I own one of the first 100 to sell to the public.
I can’t afirm the others since I have herd(Only Rumors) that Crosman has redesigned their barrels.
If so I can’t give a correct answer to the new barrels.,,, My P-Rod will shoot dime sized groups with just about any pellet at 30 yards, with acception of those new long pellets which won’t even go in either Gun Maraud or P-Rod, the pellet is too long.
All in all I wouldn’t know which one to sell if I chose to sell one.
In my Truck I still carry my faithfull unscoped Discovery, for which I can crack a Squerrils Head at 25 yards any time it sticks it out 😀
It’s easy to carry, very light, and easy to pump up with about 15 shots to a fill, and some. 😀
Oh i have no problem with filing a tank. I have a dive shop in town that fills tanks up to 6000 psi for hardcore paintballers since the central factory for Tippmann paintball markers is right here in town. I’m just tight on money right now is all. Once i get enough for a tank it is going to be on my doorstep.
tbt,
also look up some of the rather nifty upgrades talontunes makes for the marauder, you may even be tempted to go straight through there… 😉
The short answer if you ask me is the .22. I’ve owned both and still have my .22 as well as the pistol.
Shot count is only about 20 on the .25 on a good day and 30+ with the .22 “tuned” only using the factory spring/valve/metering adjustments.
Velocity is not really relevant. Wyatt Earp said it best, “Speed is good; accuracy is better”. You will only need to consider a few pellets with either rifle.
Accuracy will be determined by what pellet your rifle likes. My .25 loooooved the Benji domes as does my Condor. My .22 M-Rod will shoot JSB 18g’s in sub-dime-sized groups of ten pellets at 40 yards and quarter size at 50 yards. It is a laser!
I sold the .25 Marauder to get my .25 Condor so I could speak fluent AF with some of the yahoos I’ve come to know on the TAG and after I kind of wore out my welcome on MAR.
Ditch the pump idea if you’re concerned about shot count. Find a SCUBA shop that will fill tanks, either SCUBA or SCBA, preferably SCBA’s at 4000psi. You can get a SCBA tank from JD here on the TAG really cheap and get the hook up from either airtanksforsale.com or PA. If tank filling is not an option, consider renting a nitrogen bottle from a local welding supply and getting the fill adapter from Joe at airtanksforsale.com.
Either rifle, you’ll enjoy shooting it.
Hope this helps you in your decision.
Dave

There was a guy who posted here as “Harry”. He bagged more grounghogs. One of his favorite guns was his RWS 36 in .177; scoped of course. He managed to get headshots and proved that accuracy is always the key to success. I was always impressed with his skill and faith in the .177.
That being said, I still prefer the edge of a .25 offers. 😉
