Q:

broken thread

Hi i have a problem with one of the four screws that is holding the barrel in place. The thread in my condor frame is broken in one place. The barrel is still hold by three screws but im worried that this will impact accuracy. Am i right? whats the easy solution?

roachcreek thanks for help 🙂

ill forgive ya this time…

i havent made 30 yet, and no doubt your memory serves better than mine(thats probably my fault, though…)

Moneyshot,

When I was writing that I was trying to remember who else had fixed their gun with the 1/4 -24 x .18 screw.

Old age, brain fart?

the turned down screw would be my first route, works like a charm
(thanks, rc)

Easiest solution I know of is to drill out the frame hole and retap to a 1/4-20 or if you can find a set screw and tap for it, a 1/4-24.

Then take the 1/4-20 or 1/4-24, which ever works best for you meaning the availability of a tap and a set screw, and chuck up the set screw in your drill motor, while turning the screw in the drill, use a grinder to reduce the lower portion of the screw to .18 to match the hole in the bushing.

Riff Raff and I have done this to our guns and also a few others have. Rowdy just wrote an excelent post on using helicoils thread inserts to fix tis problem.

A new frame, striped, from AF is $123.00 if all this fails.

Good Luck,

Roachcreek
