My new .25cal Talondor is almost done…..
About month ago I saw that AOA had used Talon for sale and I got it from them. I wanted to make me .25 cal 18″ barrel Talondor. When I got it, I sold 18″ .22 cal barrel right away and was looking for .25 cal barrel.
Our infamous “Old Uncle Hoot” pointed me at Polygon LW barrel from Jim Gaska and I went ahead and got one from him since my past couple encounters with regular LW barrels were not good at all. So I decided to give this one a shot.
Jim machined the barrel for me (very nice job by the way) and I ordered all the parts for hi-flo valve from AirForce since the gun came with old style Talon valve. All I needed were just the internals of the valve to swap them with regular talon valve. I ported the hi-flo valve stem little more and did some mods to spring retainer nut that I read about here to improve the air flow. I polished TH and stem to mirror finish and it slides in and out very nicely.
Put extra hammer weight that I bought in Home Depot ( a thick spacer that weighs 42gramms) and it totaled to 89 gramms together.
I had a stock that I was working on two years ago as a project from walnut and I decided to use it for this gun. Improved it a little, put some finish on it and it actually fits me like a glove. I was pretty surprised how well it fits me and aligns my head with the scope. I think I have short neck- that’s why, because the mounts are not so high in the gun since I made it side cocker.
Anyway, put the barrel in, pumped the gun to 3200psi and with PW on 0, 35gr Eun Jin went flying 960fps! And then went down after 10 shots. Kodiaks went flying 1020fps. No bell curve at all. The hammer is too heavy for this moded valve. I cut the weight down to 73 gramms and made TH gap little less and now Kodiaks fly from 920fps up to 970fps and back to 920fps for 30 shots. I tried Eun Jins fro accuracy and they didn’t do so good but KOdiaks did pretty good at 40 yards- could put 5 shots into 3/4 of an inch hole. But I am still working on it and tuning it up. I hate the trigger in it. I think it gives me flyers.
The barrel is awesome. Thank you Hoot and Jim! I think if all goes well and I tune the gun better and trigger- this barrel will do well. I can see it wants to shoot very well!

That gun is so nice. You might want to get one of WOK’s custom trigger shoes. Can’t beat it.

Realized today that my scope on this rifle, which is Hawke Varmint with side paralax adjustment, has paralax markings that are not precisely marked. So I went to reference section here and found great sticky about the paralax adjustment and was working on it today. Actually had to do it on two of my scopes, I have Hawke scope on my FX Royale and decided to check that as well. Turned out that it also has makings not done precisely. That sticky helped a lot.
I found the trigger tune tutorial but the pictures are gone from there so I wish I could see them as I am more of a visual learner and have hard time grasping things when they are described by words.

Thank you! I just feel that it is very natural for my hand to go for side cocking nob rather then the previous configuration. I just love the way it feels and cocks much easier in my opinion.

Sweet looking stock, and great job with the scope rail conversion. The side-cocking mod is the shit, its so much easier that way.

Look in the quick reference section, there is a sticky on how to put two set screw in for trigger travel and creep. Newer guns already have one of the holes drilled and tapped that are outlined in the sticky.
You can also redo the angles on the trigger and move springs around to lessen weight of pull.
It will be well worth your time.

I really like short and powerful! 🙂 This rifle is 34 3/4 inches long without shroud. I wanted power out of it and desired to shoot 35gr Eun Jins out of it but so far they are not too promising. Also when I shoot them the rifle has some little muzzle flip, well it does so with Kodiaks as well, but I am thinking maybe the lock time is very slow so rifle moves before pellet leaves the barrel and that make accuracy suffer but I might be very wrong on this one.
I need to test this barrel more but so far I like it a lot.
The trigger- it feels like I am squeezing it forever and then it fires unexpectedly- to much creep. Anyone has any idea how to get rid of this creepy long squeezing and unpredictable firing at the end?
Your both right on the trigger.
I have both of mine to the point I can adjust them to what must be under a 1 lb.
It really makes a big difference.

Way cool looking and reads as if it all working out real nice… Looks real solid and I sure love the scope down lower. I hate how the scope mounts so high on these rifles…
I would bet money on the trigger giving you flyers… These rifles have a real bad trigger at their best… Good luck with this project

There is something about the Talon frame and the 18 inch 25 barrel.
I have a Talon frame, bought a used barrel from Taggdagger but it had no bushings. But I got a care package from AF today with bushings so I got mine together today.
It shot like shit.
So I spent the day changing scopes from Bushnel 3200 5×15 to Leupol 3×9 to no avail, then went after breechs, hammers, opened the very tight lead a bit, even recrowned it and finally found I had too much PW. I got it down to PW3 with a 2600 fill, groups went to 1/2 inch with Kings at 950 FPS.
It took all morning and most of the afternoon but it was worth it.
Again that is a very nice looking rilfe, great side cocker conversion also.
