The boom box or how to make your big bore more friendly
I saw the boom box on the Adventures forum, and I had most of the components on hand so I spent a couple of hours and put this together, it will not win any beauty contests, but like my first piece of tail in High School, I don’t plan on taking it out in public.
It is a little small for the load it takes, a full bore Ranger 45 report, but it muffles it down perhaps 60 to 70 percent, so instead of sounding like a 12 gauge going off, it is more like a whump or a large hammer hitting a carpeted floor. Inside the house with the doors and windows closed it is pretty quiet. It makes the Ranger at 4000 PSI on high power quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection. So for neighbors living 150 yards from my range it is a great addition.
I had a 6x12x24 box I had built for holding two 44 cf scba tanks, but once done with it I decided it was too heavy, so I had been using it for a step so I could shoot off the Mercedes roof.
I took the center panel out of the box, made four 6×12″ partions with shooting holes in the center, cut strips of carpet to line the inside and made four carpet lined chambers. The shooting holes are postioned so that the barrel is the correct height to shoot off the Caldwell range bag.
The rear of the box has a shelf to hold my chrony, the baffled box takes away any air blast to effect the chrony at the same time.
I can set this box down at my 100 yard range, and shoot off of the 4’x4’x2′ bins setting on end and do 100 yard groups.
It is perfectly legal in all venues and makes that big boomer a little more friendly.
Regards,
Roachcreek

I have to agree with TOF, man that Ranger is smokin’… The fact that the rounds just don’t shoot that well in everything, I don’t blame you at all…
1/2″ at 100 yards is awesome, I don’t care what it is either. That is a kill shot anyway you choice to look at it also. Not to mention just how big a freakin’ hole that is on impact LOL…
A single shot like that is awesome… That sort of sounds like the air rifle version of the 50 cal Barrett. I would be all over getting me the stuff to change the stock and all over to a mock up of that rifle, with the Ranger.
You have seen the mock up versions of those rifles??? They are really cool looking, yours shooting as well as it does, slide a Shroud over the barrel, then a nice aluminum barrel guard with a Picatinny rail down the top, nice aluminum stock of sorts and you would be right there on it dude…
That would be a have to thing with a rifle like that one that shoots that well… Its already a long rifle, at the shroud and quiten that beast down a little with a air stripper shroud and dang you would be really out there with something we all would die for LOL…
If you have not seen the mock ups of those rifles, that are an air rifle, you really need too… 220 Swift would be whom I would get to make you one of his air stripper, his are really very nice with how he bends the tubing to fit around the tank and all. That freakin shoulder cannon you got there already, would be turning everyones head as we had a look at it… Then when you light that beast off, knocking those big holes in stuff and the sudden impact of the rounds your shootin’ Daaayyyummm…
It would be the got to have item …
