FX Royale 500, .25 w/regulator
Got the FX Royale 500 (.25) yesterday and read info, loaded the mag and just took a blind shot into the hillside behind the house (I live “in the sticks”), just to make sure things were working. The manual was pretty lame, being a generic product-line type and missing some useful details, but, once you figure out how the mag works, the rest is easy. Too tired to pop paper until tonight.
Getting a new toy mid week and coming home after dark stinks. It was driving me nuts, so I shoved a mini mag light into the dirt, pointed at the target and fell back about 30 yards. After the initial zero and some minor windage tweeks, gents, the holes got bigger slowly! Criminy, within eleven pellets (JSB King 25.39 gr) the next two eleven shot groups were mostly within a dime! Mind you, this is hand-held and forearm braced a bit on an old stepladder, no bags and sitting in the dark. Can’t take a pic, but I’ll have to post some once the gun and I are broken in. This one has the optional internal regulator, which AOA set up for the Kings. Here’s the chrony spread, from AOA, for ten shots:

Don’t know how low the tank can go before accuracy suffers, but with a 210 bar fill, 33 great shots are not a problem. I’m told it can go from 220 to 150 bar.
The downside is the wood forearm grip, under the air tank, is a bit too small for me; my hands are touching the tank and on a subfreezing day, that’ll create some chill. The barrel looks like it could use some more support along the stock, in case of accidental knocking around. The cost is a bit frightening, not much less than the junky cars I get by with. I have trouble controlling the ferals with my pickup.
At least this will keep the varmints in check while the Condor is at Tony’s getting fixed and upgraded to shoot the same Kings. I better sign off and look like I’ve been doing some inside chores before my wife gets home.

There’s a certain member of this forum who keeps threatening to shoot the (rubber) duck…(You know who you are.)
Anyway, I got a small 2 inch rubber duck begging to show the guy how it’s done. 😉 The Royale might be capable, without shredding it like a 12 gauge 😆
I’ll get some paper punched and pics when weather permits. Right now, my targets have melted into the grass.

RC, you definitely did right with the 400 as a bird gun. Lighter, faster pellets and I’d guess a greater effective range shooting nearly vertical. It’s hard to imagine a 25 gr pellet, going at 900 fps, not being more affected by gravity. When birds are the quarry here, I’ll use .22 16 gr or lighter, especially in the Air Arms, which has a count per fill around 20 before drifting.
Glad to hear you’re reluctant to have 25 gr pellets raining down! That’s be some serious hurt on the noggin’ 😯
or windshield! We got yahoos out here shooting crows with .22 magnums in powderburners. Several times, had to call the Sheriff because bullets were zooming near the house. Talked to the folks myself first; that didn’t last. Seems it’s more effective for the law to visit ’em.
Anyway, the .25 is for ‘coons, ferals, groundhogs and other ground dwellers. Anyone know what animal might be a reasonable size limit? Coyote? Deer?? (Got a damn funny story about a RWS and a Deer, I’ll try to post it soon, but for legal reasons, it may not have happened.)
Johnny Sweden on the Yellow, FYI who has a direct link to the FX factory, put a 400 bottle on his 500 and a shorter barrel and shroud, made a superb looking package.
I was torn between the 400 and the 500, as most of you folks know I like horsepower, but I decided on the 400 eventually. I already had a uber 25 and a really slick little Suped up Condor valved Talon with a 18 inch 25 barrel. Plus it is to be used primarily for a top of Doug Fir Starling gun and those pellets have to come down somewhere, even tho I do use Google maps and Chairguns maximum range the remaining FPE made me nervous.
I read that the 400 sort of could use the regulaotor but in the 500 it really shines, and from your string it shows it.

The length of the gun might be awkward for smaller folks, unless they’re reasonably fit. Thick brush would be difficult. For my tastes, the weight and feel are fine. My Condor, w/ shroud is roughly the same length, around 4 feet. But, I’m 6′ 1 and got friggin’ monkey arms that fall halfway down the thighs when standing, ’bout 32″ from shoulder to fingertip. So I favor the longer rifles for feel and for accuracy. For long hikes, you might want a shorter gun.
The air bottle is really the clunkiest part of the gun. But, hey, that’s where the high shot count comes in. Shot count w/ stelath (no swinging a spring lever around) is why I’ve mostly switched to pcps. Two seasons ago, protecting a bunch of peach and plum trees in Greene, VA, I popped off 88 squirrels sitting under one tree (two-month period). One good day’s count was 24! We get infested some years.
Sounds like its going be a great shooter. How does the gun handle and balance being so long?
