breech material question

hello all, this might be the wrong section (maybe the “other guns” section?) but if i wanted to make a copy of the QB79 breech, with some modifications, what would the best material be? the bolt will probably be made from 304 stainless, (not for looks mind you) if that has any bearing on the material descision. the main area of concern is just behind the bolt handle cut-out in the breech- im going to have the breech shortened just behind it (not too close though) and im worried about strength of that part of the breech.

Have used 1018 mild steel to make Crosman receivers, some folks use brass or stainless, while others use 6061 or 7075…kind of depends on whether you want to blue, polish or anodize.

Would not run a stainless bolt in a stainless receiver. Special lubes might make it possible without galling, but I’m a fan of “simple”.

Are you concerned about crushing the receiver at the rear mounting screw?
