Q:

O-Ring Grooves

Hi Guys,

I have a 12mm ID, 1mm thick O-ring I want to cut a groove for on a 14mm OD cylinder for air gun type applications.

As I’m a complete noob, I was hoping to get some pointers:

1. Is this even the right size o-ring for a 14mm OD piston in cylinder type seal?

2. Any ideas on what shape and how deep/wide to cut the grooves before I end up going through all my moneh and patience figuring it out?

Thanks a buuuuunch.

i’d go 75% – 80% comrpession on the orings in this application. So 1mm dia o-ring means a groove 0.8mm deep. I’d give 1.2mm for the width.

Solidworks, its freaking addicting.

And I haven’t even gotten to fancy stuff.

What software are you using to produce these drawings ?
