Q:

Best pellet for hunting hands down? for my .25 AAA talondor

I know, I know this must have been covered many a time, but I’m looking for THE pellet. I just got a .25 AAA talondor from Tony (customized my talon), in .25 and I have it sighted in with predators. I plan to hunt some bigger size game if possible like turkeys, or coyotes, or??? What is the best hands down pellet? Is the predator it? Or do you guys use JSB kings? I bought some of Jerry’s slugs but have yet to use them yet, I think I’m only making 40 fpe if it’s shooting avg 835 fps with a 25.4 gr pellet right? 😥 I was hoping to make more but didn’t realize all this time I didn’t have a condor, but a talon, I know I paid for and bought what i was told was a condor at cobra airguns but this wouldn’t be the first time they screwed me. Tony tells me I have a talon and he will try his best. So now I don’t even know if my Jerry’s slugs will even fly, so much for my plans. Tony did an amazing job on my talon will post pics. Please help me find the best pellet for this set up! Thanks guys 😀

Roaches bullets which I would love to try out! HINT! HINT! RC!!! 😉

RC I came upon a post on some other forum and they were talk’n lbt molds for long distance air rifling.

To shoot both well, I think you need to have 2 different valve set ups. When set up with my high flow set up shooting sure fire slugs, changing to JSB jumbo’s required me to have a start pressure of 1800 psi which only allowed for a few repeatable shots. With Tony’s talon valve, I’m getting 30+ very consistent shots from high to mid 800’s with the jumbo’s. Accuracy is key in hunting, so until I get an unchoked barrel like Roach for slugs, jumbo’s and talon valve is spot on.

Thanks for the info guys, I had some trouble with my valve for some reason, and am getting it swapped with a high flow valve and hammer me thinks. So if I can get another 200 fps and be at 70 fpe I think I am much better off. I should be able to shoot those 7 ring jerrys slugs with 70 fpe no problem right? And how do you find the JSB jumbo compared to regular JSB? Would you guys say it’s a better hunting pellet? Thanks for all the replies!

I have a AAA Condor bought and built by Tony. My LW barrel shoots sure fire slugs and domed EJ’s fairly well to 50yds on Tony’s polished and tuned, eat some air high flow valve.

It really shines with the JSB heavies and the benji domes on my other tank that I had Tony put together for me which is a polished talon valve. It shoots jsb’s avg 880 fps. I’ve taken 4 turkeys with this combo.

What are you hunting?

Find the most accurate pellet for your gun at the power level that is “humane” for the quarry you are hunting with enough energy delivered at the distances you plan on hunting. 40FPE is more than enough for small game. I’m planning on pesting woodchucks on a farm with ~44FPE in my FX Royale 500 once it arrives.

The great thing about the .25 Condor is you can crank up the power to over 90FPE to hunt anything up to and including coyotes. You could effectively crank up the power to Condor levels with the right valve, hammer, and barrel length combo. Find the ammo that shoots the best.

Thanks guys, I was hoping that wasn’t the case but I guess it’s the same deal… I’m pushing about 40 FPE with the jsb kings, is that decent power?

Depends on what your hunting and what distance your hunting at. For the most part 40 fpe with a well placed shot will dispatch most small critters even at 100 yards. This question may open up an old “ethical” can of worms that I don’t care to dine upon 😆

As for accuracy…what everyone already said. No two barrels are exactly alike. Most LW .25’s don’t like EJ pellets…mine does!

Hands down the survey will say: .25 JSB all the way! Jerry’s slugs for knock down power, and Roaches bullets which I would love to try out! HINT! HINT! RC!!! 😉

Try JSB 25.4 grain, Benjamin 27.8 grain, and H&N Baracuda 31.02grain..all domed..these are the big 3 to try in .25 cal.

JSB’s first choice, but mine likes Benji just a little more

Predators were good for 20-40 yards shooting, but opened up out at 50+, be fine for most huning needs. Crow mags, same way, but less expensive.

Not too much trouble making it a Condor as far as power is concerned, new valve and a hammer, done deal.

If you have a Talon frame you can end up with a handier lighter rifle than the Condor, especially if you use a 18 inch barrel and a Condor valve and hammer/weight.

I onlhy use two projectiles, Kings and my cast LBT bullets. The cast bullets I use require some mods that make my rifle only capable of shooting the LBT bullets The good news tho is they can be duplicated by Jerry’s slugs once your shooting a condor power levels with no modifications.

Predators do shoot well in my regular 25, but not as good and as consistant as Kings do and they are far more expensive, and Kings kill as dead as predators do for me. If I was going after coyotes I would use the Jerry’s slugs.

Kodiaks and EJ’s don’t shoot for shit in my 25’s.

Buy or borrow lost of ammo and find the pressure and pellet that your gun likes. Same deal for firearms.
