But I have been toying with the idea of making my own AF style rifle useing nothing but AL. tubing (T6061), hopefully some help from you guys, and my humble little “shop”.
Really look at the rifle. it has that, Look what I just built in my Garge/Basement look to it.
There are plans swimming in my head. I have been finding it harder to sleep since they started doing laps.
I want to address frame flex, Scope hight, and other issues.
I picture myself getting very frustrated but also haveing fun with this project.
When I start getting parts I will keep you updated on my progress.

the trigger is very simple , i can show pics if ya like . the guns will do shot strings with only a few f/s difference over 40 shots .

What about a bottle up front design like FX ??? Regular stock with AF action?
Nice. No breech. How’s the trigger work? Making a trigger setup that works good is my only hold up.
ive made a bunch with simple plans , they work great . i got rid of any of the AF design and built it off what i figured was good:)
just a hammer with 2 orings inside that rides on the barrel . bottle angled . rigid frame /grip .
the top picture is before they were finished , ive done others and think they end up working and looking as good as the AF .
never seen a logun. might have to consider changing strategy. that would definitely cut down the cost of manufacture. this is why i love this forum. we can kick ideas around.
Worse thing you can do to aluminum is weld it. It would have to be heat treated again and then it might not be straight. Nothing wrong with bolting on the scope rail. Have you ever seen a Logun S-16? Frame is tubing and the scope rail and lower trigger part all bolt on. That is what blue lock tight is for. I have 2 Loguns and they work great.
i don’t know about bolting scope rail and trigger group on. maybe tig it on.no matter what you do, you’re still going to have vibration. that’s going to shake things loose, over time, and possibly booger the mounting holes. especially with a big kicker like the 451. ok., now my head hurts 😆
That is the other thing i was thinking of as well larger OD. and increased wall thickness.
The other thing, if possible would be instead of the hammer rideing the barrel why not make a long ass tophat, have the hammer ride it instead and then the trigger assemble could go infront of the breech and guess what you have? a bull pup talon or condor. then lose the front bushing, free floating barrel.
I’m making my own frame for my .451. It will be 1.75″ tube main frame 1.375″ ID. Trigger part and scope rail will bolt on. Will be side cocker and right hand only. If things get to hard to cock with heavy springs I will machine a slot on the opposite side and put a rubber tip on the end of the shroud so I can two hand cock it. have had the material for awhile just have been busy with the .308. Now that my barrel will be here soon I need to start on it. I was going to make it 1.5″ main frame and I even had a 1.5″ ball mill made. But I desided to go with 1.75″
making the scope rail and the trigger housing rail wider will, i think, take care of flex. and, making the scope rail in a weaver configuration will not only add rigidity, but, will also open up a plethora of mounting options as well.
i thought of machining the frame from bar stock, like a.f. does, and intigrating a full length weaver rail along the top of the frame.
there’s a bunch of other stuff, but, too much thinking akes my head hurt. 😆
I was also thinking since i am the only person shooting the rifle, that not haveing the big ass gapeing hole for the breech area might help. make it a right hand only rifle.
been having the same nightmare, lately. a lack of time, funds are what’s holding me back. i’d have to outsource the machining, that’s where the funds part of it comes in.
