Q:

Had 3" chopped off my Rapid barrel

Really quick story here as more will come later. Since I’m not in the market to buy a new airgun (getting rid of what i have 1st), i decided to upgrade (well sorta) my Rapid. I just installed the new stock not too long ago and because of the Morgan butt pad and the new stock, it added about 1.5″ more length and the gun would no longer fit in my gun case.

Well, you guys know how we air gunners are, any excuse to mod a gun and spend money right?!!!………………lol. I had always wanted to chop my rapid barrel down since i owned it but, the gun is such a tack driver, i was always scared that it would never be the same once the barrel was shortened. Well, i finally sent it to Ernie and oh man what a job that guy does. He removed 3 inches of barrel and redid the lead in better than the factory. The gun is not only 3″ shorter but chambering pellets now is noticeably smoother just as he said it would be.

The Rapid with the new stock and the standard 24″ barrel:

The Rapid now with 3″ shorter barrel:

New OVAL port instead of a round one:

3″ of barrel removed:

The goal was to only remove a little from the barrel as to still keep power and efficiency while improving balance and shortening overall length (rapids are front heavy). Goals accomplished

Thanx Rob. That wood is about 5 years old now but it just got finished and installed……lol. LONG STORY!!!

But yeah, my Rapid is my go to gun and she NEVER fails me. Not one leak, only takes about 3 shots to sight her in when she needs it, plenty of power and accuracy for taking ANY small game and, punching stuff out to 100 yards is nothing….lol.

But to be honest and fair, there are trully a lot of good 25’s out right now. RC’s new toy is a testament as well as the Maurader

Damn…. I tried to not look at this post… I really did. I love the looks of the Rapids, save for the long ass barrel…. and I knew if I looked I’d want one.

…. I want one.

That stock is just sexy by the way.

Thanx Benne….guess you and RC are the only guys interested….hmmmmm!

Thanx though man for stayin tuned!…lol

Oh dang! More ergonomic for you? You’re up higher than me but the 25.4 JSB’s seemed to like 900fpsish to me more so than 950ish. This is in my 18″ Condor .25.

RC,

I chronied the gun in PRE BARREL SHORTENING guise and the FPS with Kings was 935-940 consistently which is where the gun is always kept at power wise. Without touching anything and simply installing the shorter barrel I’m at 899-909 for about the 1st 5 shots. So FPS was definitely lost with the 3# barrel loss but that was expected. I also still have a full turn of my power adjuster and that’s how i set my guns up.

But i know what you mean as i too wish that i could have had my 24 inch barrel with the round hole 1st then have a oval port machined to see what the gains would have been.

But man, and i know you can appreciate this statement RC, what i love about my Rapid is that it’s as consistent DAY TO DAY as a PB gun. I took the scope off and removed the 24″ barrel, then installed the shorter barrel and scope, go out to the range and the first shot was on paper at 50 yards! I bet your FX’s are the same way.

More pics and video to come on the shorter barrel. Gotta go film some more target stuff

Tof,

Have you runit over the box yet? I am curious too see what that oval port did with the barrel chop, I assume that is for more effecient air flow and more power as a result.

Too bad you didn’t do one at a time to see, but then you would have needed more time and money, as if this hobby doesn’t take its toll as it is.

And what is the overall length now and before?

Regards,

Roachcreek
